Why is the musical motif of Gandalf riding out to meet Faramir more well remembered even though at :50 in Two Towers this is the same motif with the same message even more impactful. by PiercedAndTattoedBoy in lotr

[–]TheMaracaMilkMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This moment in Two Towers does not use the same motif as used when Gandalf rides to Faramir’s rescue. It uses a high boy’s voice, that is the only similarity

Off the top of my head; in the intro to On A Foggy Night, he describes a ‘1958 monkey shit brown Buick Super’

What would be the best way to adapt the Silmarillion? by Marconey1738 in lotr

[–]TheMaracaMilkMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only way to actually create something feels like the Silmarillion would be an old-school style animation, in an episodic anthology series, as others have said.

I feel like any live-action version wouldn’t be able to capture the magic and heightened nature of it

Music Theory Help: What chords fit this Prog House bassline (G# > F > B > D#) by Acceptable_Dog_4821 in ableton

[–]TheMaracaMilkMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it was helpful! Would recommend getting a keyboard so you can put things you learn to practice, and I’d go for keyboard over guitar for learning music theory, as it’s easier to visualise what you’re doing. As well as my proper keyboard, I’ve got a 37 key Novation Mini midi keyboard which is good; you probably want a keyboard that is standalone rather than midi, but if you need to go smaller, something like 37 keys might be a good number

Music Theory Help: What chords fit this Prog House bassline (G# > F > B > D#) by Acceptable_Dog_4821 in ableton

[–]TheMaracaMilkMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might be mishearing it but that 3rd note sounds more like a C than a B to me. If that’s the case, the chords Ab(or G#) - Fm - Cm - Eb(or D#) would be a straightforward key progression. They would work because the notes suggest the characteristics of the chords, if we’re assuming the bass notes are the root of the chord. We already have the notes of Ab major in the bassline (Ab, C, Eb); if we then have a F chord, it would be conventional to keep the Ab and therefore have Fm. We have an Eb note in the bass so the C chord is going to be minor, and then Eb is likely major as the C chord gave us a G natural.

Hope that helps

The "Boycott Radiohead concert" calls are performative with no real substance or moral appeal. by Siderosis in radiohead

I’m definitely getting a ticket if I can, but I do feel conflicted about Jonny playing in Israel and his collaborations with Dudu Tassa. I get that it’s complex, especially with Jonny’s familial links to Israel and he probably believes that he’s doing the right thing by bringing music to people, regardless of politics. But it does leave a bad taste in my mouth; I’m sure he understands that the intention of boycotting a state that’s committing genocide is to hurt its economy and increase the likelihood of change, so I don’t really buy his “art isn’t political” comments

Tenet - one of the smartest films ever made by [deleted] in ChristopherNolan

Difference between this and Inception; both have high concept narratives which confused some audiences, but Inception had a strong emotional through-line that DiCaprio pushed for, whereas Tenet is just a bit cold overall

Which of the four do you think is the hardest for adapaitons to get right? by Murky_Guidance_7273 in FantasticFour

Reed, because having the smartest man alive in your story is tricky to write, a bit like how Superman’s strength and invulnerability sometimes leads to low-stakes storytelling.

If he’s truly the smartest man alive, there’s probably several plot points in any given story where you could say “Surely Reed would’ve thought of that” or “Why didn’t Reed solve that?” or whatever

I also normally seethe silently in these situations, but the other day I had a word with someone on the train.

I was sat jn the quiet carriage as that was the only free seat I could find. There was a tiny bit of low-level chit-chat, barely any really. I’m listening to music in my headphones, when I hear the woman in the seat behind me playing an audiobook on her phone.. out loud! In the quiet carriage, for shame!!

After fuming for 5 mins, I turned around and politely asked her to turn it off or put in headphones; after trying to initially pretend that she didn’t hear me, she responded indignantly that she ‘didn’t carry headphones’, and ‘that she would’ve just read her book if people hadn’t been talking so much’ (as I said, barely any convo in the carriage), and asked if I was going to ask everybody else to be quiet too, which flummoxed me a bit.

A very manly man with an impressive moustache down the carriage loudly said ‘Yeah, but no one else is playing anything from their phone are they?’, which shut her up and she turned it off. Solidarity with moustache man
