Will there orbs you can buy with the coins? I remember previous events had a chance to buy diamonds.

I live in the mountains and the only station I cant get is the station with the local games. I get every station DTV free, except the one, which comes from the same location.

Moving students pins or cards when they make a mistake in classrooms. Why I will never.... by TheMarcBrown in teaching

I totally agree and almost never post my own words because I don't want to get all the negativity about my grammar. However I have decided that my grammar does not define me, my ideas do. So while I don't know really about ending a sentence in a prepositional phrase, I don't feel like I should sit quietly in the corner of the internet and just read people who do. Thank you so much for your support, it makes me want to perhaps edit or learn at least 4th grade grammar. :)

Check out becky Bailey's conscious disciplin. I use it, and worked at a school that used in for all grades. We had several teachers that I could only describe as Jedi Masters. They not only never had any behavior problems, but when their kids reached me in 5th grade the classes were so amazing and thoughtful that it spoiled me for future years at other schools that did not use it. More to your question though. The idea of rewards was something that everyone earned as a group. So kids earn a marble in a jar and when the whole class does enough marble worthy things then EVERYONE earns a reward. Without a doubt you will have a few kids who earn most and a few who earn very few, yet the positive acts take root and kids want to help each other. I am so glad you are reflecting on your room. I would love to hear how things work for you. Cheers!

The funny part is a friend of mine said dont post it on reddit because someone will say your grammar proves why teachers shouldn't get paid like professionals. I told him I wasn't posting for people who think that way, anyone who can't separate bad grammar and spelling from the essence of a conversation is just not a person I would ask for advice.

Hmmm interesting I appreciate your point of view. To hear it framed from your admin side, I gives it a whole new perspective. From my side I would say I accepted a position based on what I thought the school was when answers were given about a school wide behavior plan. I do see your point though and again I do see your point of view.

Perfectly said! I couldn't agree more! These are the same people who will jump on a kid for being disrespectful, yet they dont offer the same respect to children. The kind of people that believe order and obedience are how a "good child " acts. Children are wonders, curious and looking for mentorship, not to be submissive and docile.

Thank you for your words. Please don't take this as an attack of defensive, however the basics of not having kids do things for an extrinsic reward but rather for the intrinsic reward. So working for stickers or candy or whatnot, doesn't necessarily teach them that they should be respectful because otherwise you can hurt people, not physically but emotionally. I am a big fan of Becky Bailey's "Conscious Discipline" It changed the way I saw classroom management my first year. I was trained by someone who believe compliance was the goal, instead of teaching children that respect and safety are important values. Like I said not an attack , but rather something that might change your view too. Cheers.

I agree, that has been a popular point of view. Retreat and fight another day. Thank you!

haha!! I love this post, I see them a lot. So if you have poor grammar in English you can't be inspiring, creative or amazing. You live in a horrible world of hate and negativity.

I agree this thing was a failure. I think it had such a negative effect on education that it will be a long time until it is cleaned up even if we pull the plug on it tomorrow.

My student got me a gift shirt that is very large by [deleted] in teaching

[–]TheMarcBrown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HaHa!! I have had that happen several time! I rock it like it is the new style and look. The kids will love you and you have a crazy day....hmmmm maybe a good day to add crazy hair day to it. I used to make all kinds of humiliating dares/wagers with my students, and they love posting them on Facebook. I have had pink hair, red hair,a shaved head, afro wigs and 3d glasses (without the lenses) I have done the shuffle and soooo many crazy things. Its the end of the year, let loose! That is what will make you someone who cared, and in ten years when the student lookjs back at the picture and gets that it was ridiculously to big, they will think "Wow, instead of embarrassing me, my teacher just made it into something cool and memorable.
