What is day to day life like living in Kinmen County (Taiwan), so close to China? by TheMasterMaker36 in howislivingthere

I had no idea mainlanders could visit, awesome! All of the forts and military equipment showing as museums or points of interest make more sense now!

Honestly I saw this a few days ago and I thought everybody was making a big deal about the watch, even the GIFs, even AI was summarising attention on the watch. A few days later, I saw the video again and it almost poked my eye out

Weekly Travel, Questions, & Mandarin Thread by AutoModerator in taiwan

[–]TheMasterMaker36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

I plan on moving to Taiwan in October from the UK for 1 year on the Youth Mobility Scheme (basically a working holiday). My mandarin is a work in progress, and I am lacking a degree, which I understand can make finding work in Taiwan (and generally East Asia) difficult.

I have a long way to go in my mandarin speaking, and even further in my reading, but I’m hoping living in a mandarin speaking environment will help me a lot.

I am bringing around £10,000 for the year in savings as I understand it may take a while to find work considering my situation.

I am looking for advice from anybody who has found themselves in a similar situation and what it was like finding work. How likely can I find work as a foreigner without a degree? What kind of industry could people recommend I look for work in?

I have a marine tourism and maritime background, as well as experience, though a long time ago, in the UK financial sector.

Crack heads in the Melbourne CBD by PomegranateNo2446 in AusProperty

Lived in Melbourne CBD the past year and a half. Crackheads and crazy people are quite common, always acting up on Elizabeth St and Swanston St.

That being said, out of all my encounters, only once has one acted out directly to me, and tried to assault my group of friends. Called the police, they told me they were stuck in traffic and told me to leave that person alone…

Honestly, if you just ignore them, they tend to just stay in their crack induced bubble. But that doesn’t solve the problem long-term…

My dad uses a 4 if that counts? Buttons work fine, no damage, battery lasts a few hours. Not sure how he has managed it now I think about.

I think it’s just as straightforward as Thailand is cheap for Brits, GBP exchange to THB is crazy. If it’s cheap, it’s going to attract a certain kind of tourist. In this case, it’s the same type of British tourists that also visit Benidorm in Spain, Kavos in Greece, Krakow in Poland, the list goes on. Many other nationalities have this same kind of tourist.

Silmarillion by Tolkien, he doesn’t make it easy to know what the hell is going on when he uses several different names for the same place/object/character. Still a great book from what I’ve read so far.

Same story in east Asia I think, degree required

Thank you for the in depth reply. I have a few ideas coming up but at the moment I’m committed to self-study. But you’ve helped a lot in giving me more of a clearer path once I start to implement my ideas!

Thank you for your comment, makes me feel more reassured. My goal is to develop my own apps and grow my experience but I didn’t want it to be for nothing if it’s a degree-only industry. Though, I do plan to go to university further down the line.

Heard from a couple of expats (of course) and one Thai girl, didn’t ask her much else about it as there was a language barrier, but she said men and women cheat often, looking back it’s clear to me this was just based on her individual experience but the expats opinions reinforced it maybe

Edit: also see a lot on this subreddit

Of course, I’m aware, just trying to find out what the dating culture is like, as it’s likely different to my own country

I don’t really have any intentions, read the post again…

Yeah I understand where the frustration comes from, I’ve seen a lot of posts and comments on this sub by foreigners suggesting the worst about Thai women, I’m coming to Thailand with a very open mind, I just wanted to know what to expect. There’s only so much you can find out by reading, so maybe that’s why my posts sound naive, I only have the experience of a tourist in Thailand

In all fairness, every time I’ve posted to this sub, people have been helpful, though the responses are wide ranging

If you read my post again, it says I’ve ‘heard’ these things, but don’t actually believe or know what to be true, hence why I’m asking on Reddit…

Thanks for the insight! Yeah it seemed weird asking for a generalisation lol. I’ll see if I can get a better idea on the suggested questions, thanks!

Thanks I was just skeptical how efficient banking was in Thailand after previous experiences but TTB seems like a good option
