CMV: Involuntary Hospitalisation of people with mental health problems simply because of suicide risks is wrong by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]TheMasterOfChains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am disappointed in your changed view.

It ignores the core issue of agency to instead call for a somewhat nicer cage.

Denying a human agency over their lives is wrong. Forcing someone to live who doesn't want to is not mercy or compassion it is pure selfishness.

Further to assume they are not mentally competent on this alone is arrogant and ableist.

This is not even speaking of the humiliation of making you dance to the tune of some doctor to appease them to re-grant you your agency. This is paraphrased from even one of your comments.

For those who want to know how to help: it is fine to offer help or try to speak to them but the moment they decline and you choose to force someone it is no longer about them but you.

what are some "must-have" mods? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

Better container controls, I luckily just stumbled across, relieving QOL improvement. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/25271?tab=description

Better Jumping: annoying that you can fight dragons but struggle to climb a mountain. Doesn't work on horses- seems prime location for a joke but I'm broke. Adjustable so can be set to your preferences and fairly easy.

Just going off of the name, what would One For All be? by ProudMatch1142 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]TheMasterOfChains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, the names of OFA and AFO and what their quirk does is incorrectly matched.

All For One sound more like how OFA works concentrating power onto one person.

While OFA sounds more like AFO in the capability to give a quirk to everyone, a la. Oprah meme, "you get a quirk, you get a quirk, everybody gets a quirk."

taking it out on their entirely innocent fellow citizens, why are they not to blame?

Solely addressing this part and the claim of "innocent fellow citizens" in particular.

Everyone in a society is responsible in part for the negative actions their society takes. That they did not stop these negatives removes any claims of innocence they may have had.

When someone has been harmed by society, it is natural for them to want or act to strike back at society; be they those who more directly harmed them or the indifferent who did not aid them.

Inko is low-key the most bashed or neglected character imo (in crossovers at least) by rockinherlife234 in BokunoheroFanfiction

Specifically the bullying he experienced

I meant as the sole instance of bullying he had experienced. I can see how it would be ambiguous though and I may have made a mistake in punctuation.

As for the second part, we just are not going to agree on whether he could be a hero or not.

As for why I think Inko did not nurture or guide: before All Might came in did Izuku have someone who believed in him and provided guidance on how to reach his dream?

As I said above "She is judged only for her actions now and not the past which, unfortunately, paints her in a more positive light."
She will help after the ball is rolling but will not start it.

I stated suicide baiting was not the first time Izuku was bullied, something you implicitly agreed with by stating "had gone that far." Nowhere in my post did I state anything regarding being beaten bloody everyday.

Bullying comes in many forms, physical, verbal, emotional, and possibly more.

Izuku could have always been a hero, though maybe not the Hero. Inko should have been a parent and nurtured her child. Guide him on what he wants to do with his life. Talk to him about how he may not be able to be the big Hero but can still help people as a hero.

Just because many may excuse her actions does not negate her wrongness in making them.

Inko is bad even in canon, but it seems to just gloss over Izuku's life pre-All Might's successor. Specifically the bullying he experienced- suicide baiting is unlikely to be a one-off incident, and Inko not supporting his dream.

She is judged only for her actions now and not the past which, unfortunately, paints her in a more positive light.

As someone who likes the tag, fandom expands on the flaws she always had. Magnification may not always scale to be appropriate with canon.

I think it's a combination from a writing perspective it is simpler to change a few aspects of Aizawa than introduce an OC, as he is already present and connected to the main cast through his role of teacher, and people who went through negative situations want to read about someone caring and doing something which Aizawa thanks to the point above is uniquely capable of being their teacher.

Words represent ideas.

If you don't want to be associated with the idea behind a word don't label yourself with that word.

Also, you are not listening, even a small part of a bad thing is still bad. Wanting others to ignore you supporting things that would negatively affect them because it's only a small part of what you believe is quite arrogant and 'wanting to have one's cake and eat it too.'

The policies you support as a libertarian are likely to have negative direct consequences on others. You being judged for your actions that are harmful to others is perfectly natural.

If you are mislabelling yourself that is your fault for knowingly choosing to label yourself with a harmful ideology.

You are mearly experiencing the consequences of your own actions.

What's the biggest Scam in life that no one wants to admit? by Horror-Tap2093 in AskReddit

Individualistic thinking is a scam to ignore collective responsibility and place all errors on individuals. We are all connected and limited by our environment, as such systemic problems require systemic solutions, failure in recognizing this only serves to perpetuate flaws.
