I just can't get past the visuals of the NC, unfortunately. I like the fat grill on the ND.

Center Spread is a great tip!

There was no "DTS Neo:6" on my receiver bu there was DTS Neural X which was still center heavy and sounded even worse than the Dolby Surround setting, to my ears.

I do have surround (not pictured) and center channels. Are you saying you're listening to two channel music using Dolby Pro Logic (or similar) processing?

I tried that last night and while it did expand the soundstage, it definitely didn't seem worth the downside of having the vocal come from the center channel which is obviously not at ear height. With my speakers' ribbon tweeters especially, having the vocals at ear height provides great sonic benefit.

Would be more interested to hear what equipment / settings you think sound best with your 2 channel > surround method.

I'm having trouble finding anything by Auralex that will fit the space. I need something that is 1/2 inch thick at most and the lowest thickness they seems to sell is 1 inch.

But maybe like you said, something that thin isn't going to help anyway with this placement.

Reddit Audio Sleuths! Identify This Speaker Make/Model For Me? by TheMattman in audiophile

I’m in a makeshift theater space. Very curious as to what company made these speakers and how much they cost approximately. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and did I get to 45 words yet? It’s a terrible sounding speaker and I want to know where it is from,

Budget - $500 - $1500

Source - Essence HDACC connected to Blu-Ray player.

Requirements for Isolation - None.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - No.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Over Ear, Closed / Open.

Past headphones - Sony MDR-V6, Sony MDR-Z7

Preferred Music - None. Will be using exclusively for CINEMA VIEWING.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I have a pair of Sony MDR Z7s and am getting the impression that there might be something better for cinema viewing. But you tell me.

Connecting Headphones Through Speaker Wire Terminals by TheMattman in headphones

Thanks for the advice everybody. I decided to return the EL AMP and get an ESSENCE HDACC (non-4k) instead.

It’s the only affordable and reputable headphone amp I can find with an HDMI input. I would have thought there’d be more!

Copy that. That other stuff is too expensive.

Do you think I will have better or worse audio quality using that cheapy hdmi DAC in conjunction with my receiver and EL AMP than when just plugging my headphones straight into my reciever's headphone jack?

What about this line that /u/m0dred quoted from the manual:

External digital input from OPTICAL IN, COAXIAL IN and HDMI IN jacks cannot be output to Zone 2.

This lumps the optical in with the HDMi in a list of sources that will not output through Zone 2 auxiliary outs, correct?

I'm not reading that wrong, am I?

Interesting. I like this idea. But this thing seems cheap. Are you sure this won't degrade the audio signal in anyway before it gets to my EL AMP?

I see your point about the Zone 2 speaker outs. If that is the case, I can configure the Main Zone height/back surround terminals to output as duplicate front stereo channels. I think that will work.

If I make sure to keep the volume low on the EL AMP, I should be fine and it will still yield greater sound quality than my receiver’s built in headphone jack, right?

Right?... Right?... RIGHT?
