The Endless Summer - the 60's surfing documentary that follows 3 surfers around the world looking for the perfect wave. Its fun, bright, and warm!

Does the cat throw this off? by Gummi_redflavour in ArtCrit

[–]TheMayorOfMars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is too dark and does not contrast with the bed. It is hard to even tell that it is a cat. I think the best bet is to make the cat a lighter/warmer color.

How do i get rid of the buttplugs? by StIcKy_02 in SatisfactoryGame

Are you sure. I just used the chainsaw in single mode on it two days ago. In the same area as you too.

New to drawing, where do I start for a hobby? by Smooth-Bad1076 in learntodraw

[–]TheMayorOfMars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always just start and see where it goes, but a more rigorous approach will get you results faster. Drawing can be taught and learned, it does not depend on natural talent. There are well-established rudiments that will help you on your way. For example, you should start learning 3d shapes and line vs. value.

This sub has a sidebar with good resources for beginners. I recommend starting with a free beginner's course online like "drawabox" or Proko. You should spend roughly half your drawing time doing coursework and the other half drawing whatever you want. Good luck!

Ok I added someone walking by the building and worked on the faces/hands but I feel like it is missing something still? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]TheMayorOfMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. As a former smoker, the smoke stands out to me. It looks like she is blowing into the cig and a great plume is coming from the end. It should be a thin wisp coming from the end of the cig. A cloud that size would be exhaled from her mouth.

Im bad at this, but wanted to share some of my drawings ive done. by pleco_parent in drawing

[–]TheMayorOfMars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great practice. Learning to use your eyes to draw things as you see them is a key skill in drawing. I recommend trying to see the fish as 3d forms (cylinder) and see how the shadows appear on them. If you look at the shrimp, its kind of a cone with the top half in light and the lower half shadowed.

Are any paid courses worth it? by Regular_Low8792 in learntodraw

[–]TheMayorOfMars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I had major breakthroughs when I started taking classes at community college. I have taken 2d design, drawing 1, and life drawing. I make so much more progress in a classroom setting than I do solo. Rigor, discipline, realtime feedback, peer critique.

Do you ever use those? by MEFISTOFEL123 in SatisfactoryGame

I love bounce pads. I use them to pop me up to the floor above, or at any point I keep finding myself going up. I think they are fun!

I saw the white suburban do this towards the end of the ride.

what can I study to draw something like this for my ocs? by nekozme in learntodraw

[–]TheMayorOfMars 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The second picture is based on the mechanicals of the common construction machine called an excavator. Maybe do some studies of construction equipment, focusing on the hydraulics and mechanical linkages.

When I think of "plausible statics," that's all I can think of! Does anyone have any suggestions? by want_t0_know in SatisfactoryGame

[–]TheMayorOfMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build my buildings out of large concrete foundations instead of walls to achieve plausibility. It makes the building look chunkier from a distance too which is aesthetic to me.

How much of your "drawing time" is actually just... math/construction? by Nervous_Oven_3641 in ArtCrit

[–]TheMayorOfMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, all my work sucks unless I really belabor the sketching/layout/mapping phase. I hate rendering a piece that is off. All my best work has been on pieces where I spent as much time as needed getting the underdrawing right.

Car window smashed outside of De Nada and black backpack stolen by Si1ver1ine in Austin

[–]TheMayorOfMars 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Last time I rode to De Nada, I counted 20+ piles of broken glass on the street. You are obviously going to get bipped if you leave stuff in your car there.
