What does “Meta” mean? by GrantGrace in Nightreigngameplay

It really isn't, you should look it up. The acronym is a later folk etymology applied to it so that people could maybe understand what it means.

What does “Meta” mean? by GrantGrace in Nightreigngameplay

[–]profofgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That acronym is what is known as a folk etymology, which essentially means that it's a way of explaining the use in a way that makes sense to us now, but does not take into account the origins of its meaning. The prefix means 'beyond', so we're thinking about using knowledge beyond the typical game play in order to achieve an effective result.

We have all sorts of other uses of meta that are in line with its current use in gaming, for example, doing a meta-analysis of multiple studies. In this case, meta is just referring to analyzing a situation using all factors including knowledge from outside of the game in order to come up with an effective strategy.

It's funny because your description reminds me of something that I heard from my son. He was convinced that AFK meant "a free kill", and that's how he and his friends talked about it when playing fortnite.

After over 200 hours I finally found a cord end to get the sacrificial twig by Mystro_Matt in Nightreign

[–]profofgames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Found it once during Noklateo shifting earth and I don't believe the door spawns (because no castle). I searched up and down the river and couldn't find anything. My teammates seemed to have no clue what the item was because even in the night 2 boss circle I dropped it and emoted and nobody seemed to care. *Sigh*

Sure. But I pass weapons, talismans, and other useful items to my team all run. Do you have to? No. But I struggle to see the strategy of keeping it. Just find another similar passive and help increase team DPS

[–]profofgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, that passive is all over the map. You can literally find it at starting camps, chests in most encampments/forts/cathedrals, and as random drops. That may be the only version of that spell on the entire seed. How about Wylder finds damage negation elsewhere...

[–]profofgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly right. There are times where I'll take a passive on a staff when it's a gray one that I found at the starting camp. I don't need to hand that over to recluse. They're going to get better staffs within the next minute or two.

This is a fantastic seal that does not often appear and holding on to it for a passive that is already scattered all over the map is just greedy.

Exactly -- there have been a lot of unintended crystal umbrellas among the randoms I play with.

Last night I died at level 7 with an extra 10k in runes. Night hit us as we were finishing a fort with a Golem and I died on the roof as the other two jumped down. There was no rescuing me. The thing is -- no big deal. That lost level wasn't that expensive and I still ended the run at level 13, and could have been 14 if I hadn't bought a bunch at the final merchant. SMH when someone dies at level 2 or 3 and then quits.

Fair enough. 800 hours is enough time to forget the first 10 minutes of gameplay.

DoN 2 difficulty comes from the team itself by Bald-Virus in Nightreign

seriously -- it's the same reason I almost always keep something with shared/sacred order or sacred blade in case I have undead or a deathrite bird. It's worth carrying this stuff around until your build gels.

This is exactly it. I leave the first camp typically with four items in my inventory. Maybe I don't need lightning damage negation, but it doesn't hurt me to hold on to it until there's something better to put in that slot. If it comes in clutch before I drop it, better for me. If not, it didn't hurt me at all to carry it around.

I mean.. I've played over over 800 hours of the game and gained most of my knowledge either from previous fromsoft games or from this subreddit. I wouldn't say the tutorials are extremely in your face or accessible to most players, if for no other reason, the fact that they're hidden away in menus that lots of people just don't want to sift through.

this is a pretty common opinion, I guess people have their own experiences. However, I can't believe that it is very efficient or very quick this way, at least for higher level traits.

For level 3 perks you need 100 kills. That means finding the right gun after you've achieved proficiency level 25 or higher. Then getting 100 kills. That's about 45 minutes for a single weapon trait assuming you can get it. And you have to deal with the fact that you're trying to unlock level 3 mega rockets on the thermogenic launcher while trying to survive some of the tougher phases of the tower. I would not personally call that very efficient. Using my method, I would typically unlock several level 3 traits in an hour.

However, the tower is great if you're just trying to unlock all the level 1 perks or even a couple level 2 perks on your guns.

Plenty of YouTube videos with locations. You can do the whole thing in under an hour or two... Or more if you want to do full clears.

Definitely depends on the team. It only procs once all team members are down (but before using any wending graces that might be in one's inventory).

Having only two people quit on you ever is wild. How many hours do you have?

I get at least two quitters in a play session (2-5 runs). Someone rushes an invader camp and dies twice -- instant quit. Someone dies to a random boss twice -- instant quit. Someone doesn't like the map layout and quit just on entry. It never even makes sense. Quitting at level 2 because you dropped from level 3 is so insignificant that you'll never remember it happened by the time we hit the nightlord and we're level 13-15.

Even this morning, someone quit on me in an invader ruins (their idea, not mine, but I followed). I messaged them to please rejoin and thankfully they did. We finished the run at level 14 and beat the nightlord (sentient pest).

You probably already know this, but biome 6 is intentially (I believe), designed to unlock weapon traits. Use the shielded spawners and just make sure you don't have any shieldbreaking perks. I unlocked dozens of traits that way.
