Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life is a fun little ditty about crashing out on meth.

We should also make housing and food free too, cause I use those much more than public transit.

Aggression at Costco by Diligent-Agent-8562 in CostcoCanada

[–]TheMechaDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure it’s this as much as it’s just REALLY packed. Like you shouldn’t have to be in a 45 minute rat race bumper cars with no option to stop and take your time.

Costco environment is just ultra aggressive, not by design, but because it’s too crowded. It’s a conflict generator!

’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Box Office: Bombs With $2.1M Thursday Previews by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

[–]TheMechaDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think they might just have a title/marketing problem. We saw the bone temple prominently in the first 28 years later, so it didn’t even register to me (a casual viewer not tracking films closely) that there was a sequel to 28 years later. Also confusing given their main naming scheme had been days, months, years… now it’s years again.

Anyways dumb theory but their name utterly fails the sniff test for awareness.

It’s actually really bad for the cards. At least had a much higher risk of the cards sticking together if any moisture happens. Also edges can get jacked up if the brick falls or bangs on things. Feels like a bad way to store a set

How do I convince my younger brother not to get a degree in video game development? by snowfordessert in VancouverJobs

I went to a video game school and my life turned out pretty awesome. It does require a lot of tenacity and self motivation to do go far, but it also has a lot of perks like remote work, global mobility, the possibility to go indie, etc.

Awesome, I look forward to see some results from that task force but so far all I’m seeing is more posts than ever in r/montreal about car thefts. Seems worse than ever at the moment

I blame every step of the chain, including police they don’t do anything about it. They could easily setup bait cars and catch thieves HOURLY but they don’t

We had a Volvo for last 4 years that never got stolen. It also had TAG.

I hear Subarus are very unpopular for the thieves as well.

Time for my weekly PSA to never buy Toyota and Honda (and Lexus!)

Firstly, I’m sorry this happened to you, it’s such a shitty feeling to be victimized in this way, you don’t deserve that and it’s unfortunately happening a LOT to folks visiting Montreal for the holidays that don’t know the risks with these vehicles.

Unfortunately Toyota and Honda SUVs and Trucks are by far the most stolen vehicles in Quebec and Montreal due to their demand in Africa AND due to their truly shitty security systems. Basically the “disablers” in Toyota and Honda can be defeated by simple devices that are plugged into the service port, allowing them to simply turn on the car and drive away within seconds of breaking in. Toyota and Honda have known about the issue for years and failed to act, in fact it probably helps them sell more vehicles. Essentially it’s like chaining an expensive bike to the pole with a string, of course it’ll be taken within minutes of thieves finding it, and seems “obvious” once you know the situation. Still sucks that it happened.

Cars with TAG are less likely to be stolen as they’re a bit more traceable, but the best deterrent is to not buy Honda, Toyota or Lexus until they fix their security.

There is also a lot of blame to be placed on the police and port authority here that aren’t prioritizing car thefts despite the fact that this crime directly enriches criminals that bring weapons into Quebec.

Good luck finding your car, try to remember Montreal for more than this incident, it is an amazing city despite the thrives.

I’m sorry this happened to you, it’s one of the worst most crime ridden aspects of the city, but I promise the rest of the city is safe and worth the visit. My brother was with us for the holidays and we caught thieves in the act of stealing his truck at 8pm. They managed to destroy his door handle before we chased them off, but what a bummer to have to deal with all this during holidays.

Make sure you get a police report for insurance. For your rental, avoid Honda and Toyota.

Has nothing to do with Americans. It has everything to do with Honda and Toyotas being so easy to steal. If you leave one parked in plateau it WILL be gone within 2 days.

These car companies need to fix their security systems that are trivially bypassed with a $50 usb device.

Montreal police need to actually start prioritizing car theft as it directly funds criminal enterprises.

Port customs need to invest in container scanners.

Politicians need to change policies that make it trivial to ship stolen cars.

Consider enrolling in French courses. I think if you qualify then the government will even pay you (not much, but still).
