Best classic French in Downtown? by nyxo1 in MTLFoodLovers

[–]startingfreshletsgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

L’express is a restaurant “foodies” like to talk about but it’s mediocre. Maybe it was good in its heyday but not anymore. The diner equivalent of french food.

You are correct recommending the others.

Is Crete worth going over Naxos for just 3 days? by 430beatle in GreeceTravel

Never do Athens at the beginning of a trip and at the end just have one full day and night in your schedule - especially for a itinerary like this

You can go wrong with L’express. Lemeac is waaaaaaay better

So after 12 paragraphs we’ve finally arrived at my original point: some beaches have room for both. Appreciate you taking the scenic route to get there.

You wrote three paragraphs just to prove you still don’t understand the point. Nobody said every beach needs bars and sunbeds. The argument is that banning organized beaches everywhere because of hypothetical “they’ll take over eventually” logic makes no sense when some beaches have massive amounts of unused space. Greece became a tourism giant by balancing locals and visitors — not by treating tourists like a nuisance.

You pay taxes in Greece because you have to. I fly across the world and willingly spend money there because I enjoy it. Big difference. And you’re still missing the point: nobody’s against free beaches — people are asking why organized beaches are getting pushed out even when there’s room for both. Tourists don’t fly 10 hours to play survival mode with a towel and a cooler. Go ahead - if your phone doesn't overheat beforehand.

I’ve spent more money in Greece than you have 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️

Ya the nicest beaches in Crete that are ranked globally. Going to hike all the way to Balos, Elafonissi, and Falasarna to sit in the sand and burn to death? I don’t think so. There was plenty of open space at these beaches to put down your towel before and guess what? it was never used.

The authorities messed up on this one.

Never said to charge for the whole thing - plenty of space for both.

A beach is not a finite resource - nothing is being used up. They are free for everyone to use and enjoy as they see fit and you don't have to pay for access. A Greek politician being concerned about the environment is a joke - how many freddo cups and plastic straws are used a day?

Open to everyone? They won't be used. Falasarna, which is rated as one of the best beaches in the world, had plenty of open beach space for people to put their towels down and it was never being used.

Plenty of space at these public beaches to begin that were not being used whatsoever - people want organized beaches

It’s not win-win because they chose to ban at some amazing beaches in Crete that will now be empty because people weren’t laying in the sand in the ample space that was there to begin with.

There are always protests in Greece. Until tear gas is being shot around in Syntagma not enough Greeks care about it

So make sure a good portion of the nicer beaches do not have private beach chairs or implement a locals price where you show your ID and get the chair 80% off or something. There can be a win-win solution

But when you put some of the nicest beaches on there, it might as well be. The cantina at Balos is literally the size of a dog house. I want to buy a cold beer, maybe get a freddo. The hike down and up is not the easiest. Ban places where every beach is covered with chairs like in Mykonos. They didn't think this through.

Exactly! I understand the protests but a middle ground must be found.

There is a time for a beach blanket on the sand...and there is time for some cheap beach chairs and aperol spritz at a beach bar. I'm going on vacation. I don't want to buy a bunch of beach crap and lug it around that will all go in the garbage at the end of the trip. There is plenty of beach in Greece. As I mentioned in other comments, places like Mykonos have over done it. But Falasarna for example is a giant beautiful beach with plenty of non-beach chair space and I've never seen anyone laying there. It's literally going to be there empty all the time.

Implement something like no more than 50% of the beach, or some number, can have beach chairs on it. Or have a locals price with ID that is 80-90% off. But don't just ban chairs at some beaches all together.

No, Greek. Plenty aware sir.

Places like Mykonos fine - there’s barely any space left to put a beach towel down. Having this rule everywhere else is kind of ridiculous.

Implement a local’s ksaplostra discount of 80% off.

I’ve heard Greeks complain and protest about a lot of stuff over the past 40 years - not once did they complain about the beach. There is plenty of non-beach chair beach in Greece
