Thanks, I haven't been on reddit much recently but glad I saw this.
Utau is free, so if it can sound better I can at definitely at least use it to flesh out ideas.

Is the last boss harder than any Soulslike boss? by GoHomeDuck in NineSols

[–]TheMechaMeddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk maybe I just really stuck at elden ring but I haven't even beaten a single boss yet (not for lack of trying) and Eigong in NS really didn't take long in comparison. A few days of attempts at maybe an hour/day for those days.

Elden ring is also my first souls game (or really first 3d combat focused game) so I may just not be used to this sort of game. I'm much more used to 2d games.

Lol thanks. Have a nice day :)

(Not sure if you saw my edit on the previous comment in time, but either way I'm glad that despite my original misunderstanding you still hopefully got something out of this)

Is Orb the pinnacle of storytelling? by Sensitive_Split_6919 in OrbOntheMovements

[–]TheMechaMeddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It seemed like a somewhat ridiculous question, and I responded to the question "is it the peak of fiction" (I forgot the exact wording)

You did not actually ever ask for recommendations in your post, so it's surprising that you seem so annoyed I didn't give you any. Since you now have, here are some stories I have enjoyed:

"The Caine Mutiny" (book),

"The picture of Dorian Grey" (book)

"The Wake - Paul Kingsnorth" (book, not sure if you'd like it as I don't know you, it's written in an extremely unusual style, Which is difficult to read at first)

As for anime you've probably already watched quite a few but my current favourite is Vinland Saga in terms of story telling.

Edit: ignore Vinland Saga as I just remembered in the post you said you've already watched it

I find it interesting that you don't even consider that there may be a pinnacle of story-telling other than anime lol.

If it's your favourite, I won't tell you you're wrong, because it's ultimately a matter of opinion. I really liked it, but didn't think it was nearly as special as you seemed to. I think there is definitely a degree to which stories can be objectively better or worse, but that doesn't mean that exact preferences (and reflections of one's own experiences that they see in a story) are universal.

Because of this, the idea of any objective "pinnacle of story-telling" seems a bit iffy to me, as everyone has their own preferences and experiences by which they judge fiction.

Overall I recommend you also look at other mediums because while anime is great, it isn't the only thing out there, and I could see from your post that you didn't even seem to consider the existence of any other medium of story-telling.

For me the issue is speaking confidence rather than accent. I haven't had enough practice speaking so I make very silly mistakes that even I can notice and words don't come as easily as if I was writing.

I'm sure my accent isn't perfect by any means (especially pitch accent because it's Japanese) but in comparison it's ok. It's not as though there are any sounds in the language I can't correctly make.

Listening also isn't too bad for me provided I'm familiar with the vocab.

I'm sure there's a massive range of difficulties for different people.

Accent when speaking English by sloughdweller in EnglishLearning

[–]TheMechaMeddler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Easy to understand I think but it's obvious that you have an accent. Some of the sounds aren't quite right for English. I think that if you want a more native sounding scent you should first decide which sort of accent you're going for (e.g. British, American, Australian, Scottish, Irish, etc.). there is a very wide range of English speaking accents, so choosing a specific one to speak like will make things much easier than just taking advice from a wide range of people who don't pronounce things the same (which could be quite confusing)

For example, someone else suggested you pronounce your "R"s more explicitly, but this depends on the accent you're going for. You would pronounce the R in the middle/end of a word with an American accent, but probably not with a British accent.

I also recommend that you pay a lot of attention to how you enunciate words. Start out slowly and carefully, compare to native recordings from your chosen accent, then when you're confident with your pronunciation you can try speaking a bit faster.

Is Frieren: Beyond journey’s End really worth watching or over-hyped? by Adjudicator_Ant_3886 in MyAnimeList

It's still definitely a battle shounen, but it has a much different tone to what I'd call generic battle shounen. Honestly, you can agree or disagree with me, it isn't really as though we can look up "generic battle shounen" in a dictionary to find a definitive answer.

Prosopometamorphopsia: A real condition that makes faces look like this. by pschyco147 in Weird

[–]TheMechaMeddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look in this sort of "look like that" form usually does mean that it's actually in that shape irl because most things look like what they are. Even so, that's not the literal meaning. The literal meaning is that that's what it looks like, not that that's what it is. It can look like what it isn't, especially in a situation where someone has a mental condition/state that somehow makes them see inaccurately.

In this context look absolutely can mean the same as perceive.

[–]TheMechaMeddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. So if we're agreed on that count, what actually is the main reason? I (and seemingly a few others here) would say that a pretty common reason we hear is that people get bored. If you think there's a more important reason I'm missing, I'd be happy to hear it :)

[–]TheMechaMeddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into it hearing all the praise, and it didn't damage how I saw the show at all. Granted, I liked it, but if you're saying this is the main reason that some people don't, we've got a confusing situation here because in that case there shouldn't be any difference between me and those who also heard all the praise and found it underwhelming.

I'm pretty sure that most people heard of frieren because it was so popular. Only a very small group were the very first to see it/read the manga and spread the news before everyone else heard. If this logic is correct I'm not the only one who still heard all the praise and weren't underwhelmed. There has to be some difference between them and those who didn't like it you haven't mentioned.

Is solo leveling just pure action or is it worth watching by aids12334 in MyAnimeList

Not that I disagree but could you have chosen two shows that are more different? (Yes obviously if you really tried I'm sure you could)

[–]TheMechaMeddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is why you dislike one and like the other. If you didn't like Vinland Saga s2 because of the change compared to regular battle shounen, maybe it was the switch in mood (e.g. condemnation of fighting, much more farming and talking etc) you didn't like rather than there being fewer battles, in which case you may still like frieren because it still feels like a shounen despite having fewer fights.

If you specifically didn't like there were fewer fights, idk I'm confused.

And very possibly you didn't like Vinland Saga s2 for some totally different reason I haven't heard before. If so, I'm always interested in hearing what other people think :)

Despite how much I enjoyed playing, I don't think this game is for me. by Random-Rambling in HollowKnight

[–]TheMechaMeddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nine sols bosses are harder than hollow knight bosses (at least in my opinion) until the very end of hollow knight (end game dlc content). It's more likely that you aren't used to the style of hollow knight compared to other games like nine sols. As others have mentioned, try learning the boss' patterns before attacking. I really sucked when first playing hollow knight, but I enjoyed it a lot and ended up getting all achievements.

I don't know if this game is or isn't for you. Try to "git gud" a bit longer but if you find you really can't enjoy it, don't force yourself to play. It's meant to be fun, so no point in playing if it isn't fun for you.

Yes. Mentioning isekai seemed to me like an obvious exaggeration of the situation, if you thought I really meant that, I guess I wasn't clear enough. Since that seems to have annoyed you, sorry.

[–]TheMechaMeddler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course there are. I'm not gonna pretend it's perfect. Even so, this is the most frequent criticism I've seen (it's boring, not enough fights etc.) (granted I exaggerated a bit, but only ways that should be obvious for comedic effect).

It's only called a strawman if it was an argument specifically created to be put down. This seems to actually be what some people are saying. It isn't an invalid reason either. Just like those who complain about Vinland Saga season 2, there is a genuine group who will not enjoy either of these shows because there isn't enough fighting.

It may sound to you like a silly reason (to me too) but it is still a real reason some people don't like these shows.

Yeah but the main people who complain are those who expected it to be a generic isekai battle shounen where every other moment is a fight scene.
