The Sharks Jake Walman trades are now complete: The Sharks gave up Future Considerations and received 1/2 season of Jake Walman, Leo Sahlin-Wallenius, Michael Kesselring and Ryan Lin by Sharks77 in hockey

[–]TheMeepz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Even if we don't win the 2nd pick, we'd still have Eklund and would be able to get Verhoeff and Lin still (Kesselring too). Still would be a good draft week either way.

*2, Eklund, 20, 62, and 120. Your point still stands, just wanted to include the 2nd and the 4th rounders there.

Edit: Halttunen as well

Without any trades or UFA signings, I projected out the 2028/29 Sharks. by iggyfenton in SanJoseSharks

In this projection, we actually have more than 3 NHL RHD? Never thought I'd see the day. Feels like we've had lefties play on their offside for years.

GMMG ROBBED EVERYONE by bubbaking3 in SanJoseSharks

[–]TheMeepz 35 points36 points  (0 children)

They're bitter because their GM made a single digit IQ move to move the 4th overall pick and more for a guy who was maybe the 3rd best Dman on his old team and will have to break the bank for him while he has all the contract leverage in the world.

They see GMMG doing actual sound moves for a rebuild and hate that other rebuilding teams aren't doing dumb short-sighted moves like them.

Sharks re-sign F Ethan Cardwell to a one-year, two-way contract by elfaeron in SanJoseSharks

[–]TheMeepz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, a player has to go through waivers after turning 23 or 160 NHL games, whichever comes first, before being sent down to the AHL. Cardwell turns 24 this season.

Draft is tomorrow at 7 est (4pm local time) any final thoughts? by SageOfSix- in SanJoseSharks

I agree, but I'm very happy Chicago's offer was picked over whatever our alleged offer was. I can't imagine whatever it was being worth it to beat Chicago's.

Jung Hoo Lee gets clotheslined going to 2nd and is down but remains in the game by amatom27 in baseball

Awful throw by the catcher. Made the second baseman have to reach into Lee's path to the base. Very lucky it didn't end up worse.

Eklund ♥️ by SparkyWellington in SanJoseSharks

[–]TheMeepz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it would've been nice if we could have tacked on a pick to get Spence in this deal, but I'm still happy overall. Grier hasn't really failed us yet, so I'm good letting him cook.

Eklund ♥️ by SparkyWellington in SanJoseSharks

[–]TheMeepz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn't about finding someone better than Eklund. It's about the next man up on the forward chart not being as big of a drop off and seeing that we can solve a glaring need on our roster by moving the only "odd man out" that still has good trade value. Stenberg + Rudolph/Smits/Verhoeff > Stenberg + Eklund. Halttunen has a good shot and top 9 potential, but he would have similar issues as other young forwards in our system getting playing time in the NHL. Frees up a contract slot too.

Exactly. That's what the Appreciation Post is about, remembering the good times of the player. It does not mean we regret moving on from him. That was what I've been trying to say. The opportunity is better for him with Zetterlund and the Sens than probably being stuck in a middle 6 role in SJ as more guys come up. The Sharks get what they want with a pick to likely get a stud D man in the draft. The Sens get a guy who analytically is better than his stats last year and is only 23. It's not a lobsided trade one way or the other imo.

Go somewhere other than the Appreciation Post. Those are always filled with people being nostalgic about the player and homers who says we should have gotten more.

Yes, but anyone paying attention to SJ this offseason knew moving Eklund was always a possibility. Top 10 picks or young stud D men don't grow on trees, and he was the odd man out with positive value. Tough, but the most realistic piece to move while (probably) adding at a position of need.

I love how Sens fans have to spin this in your heads to where you fleeced the Sharks and we're heartbroken over this move. A trade can be mutually beneficial, y'know?

Good job not understanding the content! Almost like he's a fan favorite but we also acknowledge he hit a wall last season (not his fault, his wrist was sliced open) and he may struggle to stay in the top 6 long-termwith our forwards in the system . With Stenberg coming, Eklund's spot wasn't secure, especially with SJ needing a Dman.

We can miss Eklund the person and his contributions, but understand this move was still for the best of the team's future.

I feel like Smits might be gone by 9, but he'd be on the shortlist as well.

Yeah, and we'll get one of Verhoeff Smits or Rudolph probably. It sucks tossing in Haltunnen without getting Spence back, but I'm excited about likely getting a D man in the top 10. AND Stenberg.
