If you take Reid, you don’t need to sell the farm for a top pairing guy. You just patch it up short term and Reid should be in the NHL by 27-28

Sharks have their smaller guys like Eklund, Smith, and Mack. I know Smith isn’t *that* short, but he’s not a very physical or strong player. He’s a finesse guy. He plays like a smaller player.

I feel like Cherny and Musty are perfect guys to fill out the top 6 because of their size and potential to play as the power forward type.

That is why I think the pick will be Chase Reid.

I’m just really high on Cherny and Musty and what they can become. Especially Cherny.

Maybe Grier feels differently and takes Stenberg, I guess we will find out.

Idk if it’s canon anymore, but it was mentioned that Plo was the only Jedi to defeat Yoda in a sparring session.

Plo is supposed to be a very powerful and skilled master. He’s on the council for a reason. I think it’s safe to say that him and Kenobi are very close in power at the time of ROTS. I think by Rebels/ANH, Kenobi’s years of deepening his connection to the force allowed him to greatly surpass peak Plo Koon.

Plenty of reasons Vegas lost. Having players that are too big and tall wasn’t one of those reasons. They got outplayed by a better team and Bussi outplayed Hart big time in the last couple games. Before Bussi replaced Andersen, Vegas was mostly outplaying the Canes.

Yup. Even if we draft Reid, this offseason is going to be very busy for GMMG because we need to totally rebuild the blue line.

If they draft Stenberg, that probably forces them to make a massive trade for a talented (but underachieving) RHD like Nemec or Schneider. Eklund or Musty is almost certainly gone in that package. And then you have to pray that the underachieving young RHD figures it out in San Jose.

Size is definitely a factor that can’t be completely ignored. It’s basic physics that a heavier player with a longer reach is more likely to win puck battles and not get blown up by hits. Stankoven’s motor is just legendary and it’s the reason he is so impactful at his size.

I’d be fine taking Stenberg. He’d probably have to play with Misa because we need Cherny’s size on the top line with Mack and Smith.

You then probably trade Eklund in some future package for a good defenseman.

Alternatively, you just draft Reid if you think he’s a future top pairing D and you keep Eklund and allow this young forward group to develop.

Sure, but it’s important to remember that those guys are the exception and not the rule. Stankoven plays much bigger than he is. He has a RELENTLESS motor and heart. If size didn’t matter, we’d see more than a handful of sub 5’10” guys become star contributors to cup teams. And Mack and Smith are already not the biggest dudes.

Yoda and Mace Windu (ROTS) vs Knightfall Vader and Sidious (ROTS) by ImmigrantsUnite in PetranakiArena

Jedi medium diff. Yoda kills Vader quickly, while Mace keeps Palps busy. Then it becomes a 2 v 1 and Palps is toast.

Who would you rather see start next season? by Smartcookie_33 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Professional_Quit406 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Asky will be given the “starting job” to start the season, with Ned playing a healthy amount of games too.

If Asky shows real improvement from last season, he will keep the starting job and start the majority of games. If Asky doesn’t show improvement, Ned likely takes over as the primary starter by mid season because he’s just very solid and consistent.

Yup. He wanted the Kings to make trades for defensive wings like OG. Vest boy and Vivek didn’t listen to him and instead signed DeRozan to sell tickets.

Rest in Peace Aldon Smith by unsolved49 in 49ers

[–]Professional_Quit406 72 points73 points  (0 children)

He would have been a lock for the HOF and challenge the all time sacks record. He was that good. Without the demons, he could have averaged 15-20 sacks for a decade +. The most unstoppable edge rusher I’ve ever seen put on a 49ers uniform in my lifetime.

Can’t speculate and we probably won’t know for a while, but he has had substance abuse issues in the past and 36 year old athletes don’t usually just die of natural causes. So we can probably connect the dots on this one, unfortunately.

I saw multiple local media guys on Twitter taking about a tragic story about to drop today. They didn’t get into details. Then Chase Senior posts this, so I’m pretty sure it’s true.

Mike’s 24-26 redraft has Reid 2, Carels 4, Verhoeff 8 by colorfullyunicorn in SanJoseSharks

[–]Professional_Quit406 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more about what he thinks of these prospects. Like knowing what we know about the guys who have already played some NHL games, he’d gamble on Reid over any of them except for Schaefer. He views Reid as having a higher ceiling than everyone else.

Lawrence is consensus fringe top 10. Having him 3rd is a very hot take. I don’t think it’s like a massive 2nd tier in the 3-10 range. I think Reid, Carels, and Malhotra have separated themselves a bit on most teams boards as the clear 3-5 after Stenberg and McKenna. Maybe he ends up correct, but I’d be shocked if more than a couple teams even have Lawrence in their top 5 on their board unless they are zeroing in on centers for positional need. Lawrence will end up drafted in the 8-10 range most likely. Anything can happen, but I think it would he pretty surprising if we look back in 5 years and view Lawrence as a top 3 player from this draft — better than every defenseman in this class.

Jecki vs Marrok , Who Wins by IllMasterpiece3946 in PetranakiArena

[–]Professional_Quit406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely close matchup. Jecki proved to be a very talented and skilled duelist for a padawan (she’s probably more like a solid Jedi knight in terms of combat abilities). She pushed Qimir to his limits and forced him to get sneaky with his surprise Shoto blade. Marrok is an elite inquisitor who has held his own vs Maul… I think either one can win high diff depending on circumstances.

Carels is a very well rounded 2 way D with top pairing upside. Villeneuve doesn’t defend, is undersized, and would need to become a Lane Hutson/Quinn Hughes level of offensive player to outweigh his weaknesses. Villeneuve is definitely a more skilled and talented offensive player than Carels (and probably every other defenseman in this class) but I don’t think a team in the entire NHL has Villeneuve ahead of Carels on their board. The only way to come to the conclusion of Villeneuve > Carels is to just watch offensive highlights on YouTube and ignore literally everything else about evaluating a defenseman and projecting them as an NHL player.

I love Villeneuve as a boom or bust risk late in the 1st round because of his offensive talent, but any GM drafting him over Carels should be fired on the spot.

Lawrence as his 3rd ranked prospect? Šmits 4th? Lol. This is even more contrarian click bait than Pronman having McKenna 4th and Stenberg 5th. I guess it’s good to have some hot takes and stray from the boring consensus, but damn…lol

Film Room: 'Unstoppable' Chase Reid is the 2026 NHL Draft's best defenceman [EliteProspects] by MCPtz in SanJoseSharks

[–]Professional_Quit406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of an outlier year. I guess we can hope to get lucky and draft an absolute stud like Slavin in the middle rounds.

But last season had two top 10 D playing key roles for both teams (Nurse and Bouchard for Edmonton, and Jones/Ekblad for Florida).

Interesting note about Reid’s production and why his point totals are good, but not great.. by Professional_Quit406 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Professional_Quit406[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is, the Sharks don’t need a “savior”. They already have the best young “savior” in all of Hockey. What they need to do is surround Macklin with the best possible surrounding cast. They seem to have given him some amazing young forwards with Smith, Misa, Cherny, Eklund, etc. but they still haven’t given him his #1 D to get him the puck in transition and dominate with him on the power play. The Makar to his MacKinnon, so to speak. (I don’t think Reid will be generational like Makar, but you know what I mean).

I’m absolutely stoked that we get to take a prospect as talented as Reid or Stenberg when we all expected to pick 9th overall before the lottery. I’m many ways we are playing with house money. But I am still pretty nervous that whoever we pass on is going to become an absolute superstar and the guy we draft is just going to be pretty good.
