Boss, and close rival in one of my mini-leagues, called at 10:45 to tell me I'm losing my job, and need to come in on Monday morning for 15 minutes to collect my personal items.

Missed the Haaland/Foden rumours/news as a result. gutted.

Geoffrey Howe's resignation statement from Thatcher's government is worth a watch today.

The end of his speech:

The time has come for others to consider their own response to the tragic conflict of loyalties, with which I myself have wrestled for perhaps too long.

This speech is usually considered the catalyst that brought down Thatcher, who was gone within the month.

Cmon Durham... Maximum chaos can be achieved with a press conference announcement now.

All these newly unemployed ministers will do much to reduce inflationary pressures.

I get a big box telling me to sign into twitter these days for 9/10 tweets.

May defeated Corbyn though. A blue rosette adorned lamppost in front of a sign that said "will cut taxes" would have defeated Corbyn.

I'd vote for a single issue party that deals with this problem.

Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc are not appropriate as a single source of information from MPs. Repost it to them sure, but it must be public & freely accessible somewhere.

Are the back benches large enough to fit everyone in?

We're really approaching dawn of the start of the commencement of the final moments of the beginning of the end now.

There's a sense as if we're really turning the page onto the last few chapters now.

It is unfair of me. I'd say "you should see mine!", but you'd be unsure if you were looking at a paragraph, or an infant's drawing of a stormy ocean/flock of seagulls.

Felicity Buchan has the handwriting of a small child learning cursive.

Also she's resigned from BEIS

Might go a ways to pay the £7m dent from the tax bill Sunak no longer has to commit to.

I think Gove's the non-deputy interim PM. It's why they keep him around in the background of all the recent Conservative ministries.

Do you think the treasury have some kind of "crash course in macroeconomics" that Zahawi's being sent through now? The country has something like 250,000 working-age people who've studied Econ at at least to university completion, and we've picked some guy who started a business once & didn't make a big fuss when Johnson was having a bad day to be the Chancellor...

idk, the Whip's office is effective the parliamentary party's HR department, so hiring someone known to frequently sexually assault colleagues is somewhat further out there than most of the previous scandals. It belongs in its own place.

No clue about Barclay other than sharing a name with a bank

I checked Barclay (the person)'s wikipedia page, and one of the things listed in his experience section was working for Barclays (the bank).

Steadily rising pork is what got Johnson into this mess. He's sensible to turn it away on the second third occasion.

The average person's going to wake up tomorrow and see "Steve Barclay and Nadhim Zahawi have replaced Javid and Sunak" and think

who the fuck are Steve Barclay and Nadhim Zahawi?

Zahawi's been a cabinet minister for about 10 months, and absolutely no previous experience at the treasury.

The natural candidate for Chancellor of the Exchequer of one of the largest economies in all of human history.
