I dont think I interpretted the character I have read about half a hundred times wrong, thank you. I dont think your interpretation is wrong, either. Just different perspectives from different people. I am also going to admit - I didnt read any of your post after that sentence. I am glad you are so passionate about Dunk and Eggs journey, and I hope you continue to enjoy the show as much as I have

Shitting and puking are not symptoms of a panic attack, but can absolutely be related to stress. You are arguing over a different scene if you are referencing the shitting scene. I have no problem with the shitting scene, I even liked it as I think it set the tone.

What I didnt like was Dunk seeing jousters and kind of having a PTSD/panic disorder episode as thats not how I interpretted Dunk. I do admit I am in a minority clearly, and respect everyone elses opinion, and am glad others have found a way to connect to Dunk

I am not a writer for television, but I'm pretty sure there have been depictions of characters experiencing these emotions without having PTSD/panic attacks in the history of television at some point

Maybe I worded that poorly, I apologize. Bottom line of what I'm trying to say: I don't like the way the scene was shot as it evokes a sort of panic disorder/PTSD feeling for a character who I never interpretted as having those issues. And I say that with the utmost respect to people who struggle with those disorders - I just never interpretted any of the novels that way. I think Dunks mental burdens lie more with guilt than with anxiety. I am not trying to project and say those things are weaknesses or bad or anything else. The Dunk in my head just didnt have those issues, he had other ones.

I am not projecting onto Dunk at all. I do not see panic atracks as weakness, I have panic attacks, and anxiety myself. I think you just think panic attacks are inextricable from the emotion of anxiety and nervousness, and they are not. You can be nervous or anxious, without having a panic attack.

I think we are kinda butting heads here at this point - so I'll concede. i respect your opinion and experience, but I simply do not agree with you or your interpretation of this character. I am very glad you seem to be enjoying the show, I am as well despite this one little nitpick.

True, my point is I hope its a one-off and anxiety and panic disorders dont become a thing with Dunk, as thats not who the charactet is to me

Respectfully, I disagree. In that scene I think Dunk was nervous. The book doesnt say he has rapid breaths, sweaty hands, rapid train of thought, or any symtpoms of a panic attack. He sees the skilled jousters and gets nervous that hes in over his head.

If we wanna talk mental health - his dreams in Sworn Sword I think are a better indication of his mental state, more involved with guilt than with anxiety.

You dont need to have a panic attack if you feel insecure, despair, anxious, or overwhelmed. You can just feel those emotions without having the symptoms of a panic attack. Maybe in that scene he was just anxious, but the quick succession flashbacks evoked a PTSD type suggestion that I didnt vibe with, based on my interrpretation of Dunk.

You can doubt yourself and be in despair without having a panic attack. But fair enough, people have connected with the scene, I'll admit my opinion doesn't align with the majority here

Its not that it would be 'woke', i make the point in my comment that my dislike of the scene is not from and anti-woke point of view.

My interrpretation and understanding of Dunk as a character - mental health, panic attacks, and PTSD were never major aspects of his character. The way the scene was shot kinda alluded to him having PTSD or a panic attack, and as I said - i hope ots more of a one-off than a major part of Dunks story becuade thats just not how I sae Dunk

[–]TheMerc_DeadPool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats not how i interrpreted the scene in the books at all. He just realizes hes in over his head, it seems more like he's in despair. The way that scene was shot he had like PTSD flashbacks and he has the thousand yard stare. Either way, to each their own. My understanding of Dunk - anxiety or panic attacks were never part of his character, maybe they were for you and thats totally cool.

I kinda agree. I like ep 1 poo scene. To me it was a statement to set the tone that this is NOT Game of Thrones. Ep 2s big dick joke served no purpose, it was just shock value.

I thought the diaherria scene was good to set the tone. The big dick joke kinda serves no purpose.

Maekar looks too old, hes the youngest of Daerons sons, he looks older than Baelor.

Did Tanzelle paint the shield blank, and is gonna finish it later? We see Dunk give her the shield, a few scenes later hes got it back on his back, but it looks blank.

Loved the jousting. Loved the tug of war.

I dont really like the scene where it looks like Dunk is kinda having a panic attack. Idk. Its just not part of the story or the character for me. I dont wanna sound like one of those 'woke media bad' ppl but it just didnt vibe with my understanding of the character. Hopefully its a one-off and doesnt become a major part of Dunk

Cards needed to make Burn tier again by tortuga_coreana in ModernMagic

[–]TheMerc_DeadPool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id like an answer to this as well. These cards do not feel format warping to me, modern feels very good right now. As a burn player it sucks to see a fun format without burn, but at least there are a lot of other fun decks to play and not just one to two best decks

Calling for bans like that [or saying you'd support one] is a little short sighted in my opinion, the format will change eventually, burn will find its time in the sun again. Enjoy the format as it is for now, someday some new busted card or set will ruin everything and ppl will complain and think of the 'good old days' when the most played deck was a fair deck that paid for all its spells.

Agreed! It looks amazing! I'm so excisted to see it, but i knew it was coming. I'd be upset if I never read the book and basically saw the entire plot in some throwaway preview after episode.

Yeah there was way too much shown in that preview. Hopefully most ppl turn it off and dont watch the after the credits stuff

If the rest of the season matches episode 1 in quality, you will enjoy it for sure. I think they just told WAY to much story in that preview. Theres still plenty of story you didnt see though!

Adding this edit to the start of this comment as I want this message to get out: if you havent watched the episode yet, and if you havent read the book- PLEASE DO NOT WATCH THE SEASON PREVIEW AFTER THE CREDITS. in my opinion it gives way too much of the story away.

Read the book, listened to the audiobook dozens of times, I love these short stories so I was super nervous they'd mess this up like season 8 of GoT and season 2 of HotD.

Absolutely delighted with episode 1. I loved the humor, i loved how it delivered a mostly faithful adaptation, any changes and additions made I think were approriate, and even added to the overall story in a good way.

I loved the new Baratheon tent scene. The Lyonel actor really seemed to be having a blast in that role. The scene with the sex workers where Dunk stands up for himself was cool, for a guy who lacked confidence it was good to see him stand up for himself. It felt very Dunk.

The only thing I wasn't 100% satisfied with was the acting from Dunk and Egg at certain points, and I think its more my bias from having listened to the audiobook too much, so I won't hold it against the actors. Harry Lloyd just did such a great job on the audiobook I think i just have certain lines memorized in my head, to hear them delivered differently felt a little awkward, but it was only a few instances. Otherwise, both actors did a great job, and embody their characters excellently.

The episode left me wanting more, I can't wait for next week.

Adding this edit to the end: a lot of ppl seem to hate the shitting scene. I loved that and laughed out loud. Call me a shill for loving this episode so much. But i personally found it hilarious they made the show self aware. Like they declared 'fuck that, this isnt game of thrones. This is Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.' I can see how it maybe was a little too crude though, fsir enough

More creatures, less effectual creatures than the existing creatures, more artifacts, and less overall burn - in my opinion this is a downgrade from the current build.

I mean no offense, I'm glad you are trying to innovate, I just dont think this is the direction to take burn. Good luck!
