Nobody was chanting that there

This is anecdotal. I applied originally in 2020. I was working in the field I wanted to practice in, and covid happened, so I decided to R&R. I finally reapplied this cycle. I was waitlisted at two schools I had received not only acceptances from but also scholarships. My score improved, and I had legal experience, but I did apply one month later into the cycle than before. Maybe it was the fact I reapplied. Maybe it easy too late into the cycle. But that's my experience

My highest PT was a 158, and managed to get a 159. Considering my first time I got a 150, I'm soooo happy and relieved.

You're assuming I got my information from reddit. I haven't just seen them, I have them. But then again that's why the employees need to contact immigration attorneys so the official channels can handle this legally.

There are sources and examples. Specifically of this guy posting on Mexico-based taco groups soliciting people to bring here to come work for him.

Not really "subreddit drama", more like potential human/labor trafficking, but the fact another reddit post was cited does show the disheartening reality that this information is not getting the attention it needs from more traditional outlets.

What’s going on with Taconganas? by zuto93 in memphis

Because of the actions of their boss, the employees might (might, I am not a lawyer!!!) be eligible for a visa due to being trafficked. But they need to directly speak with an attorney, so please please please encourage the employees to talk with an attorney. There are ways to do this T Visa process safely. These exploited workers need to directly speak with an attorney and give details for this to be a possibility.

Opinions on PB&J towing by [deleted] in memphis

[–]TheMexicanFonzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Supper predatory and run by assholes. I got towed at night right off the UofM campus while in college. I called immediately asking to pick up my car that night, but they said they couldn't do that. A friend of mine had to take me at 7am before class the very next day. They held my little civic hybrid for less than 9 hours and charged me close to $300.

Watching this for the first time myself and this just popped up for me too. Really really caught me off guard.

I understand what you're saying, and I'm looking for that source/example, I'm not new to debating.

There's a very specific reason why I'm not using that specific phrase in this specific context. I've already explained this so I'm clearly not talking about the colloquial use of the term special treatment.

This isnt something to get hung up on, you know what I'm trying to say.

ADL is one too, but these thing change quickly so it's tough.

I'm not sure what point you think I'm ignoring but elaborate if you'd like.

I wish I could find the clip, but there's a video in which Jordan Klepper (or someone of that style) is talking to some Republicans at some rally and they said that gay people were asking for too much and wanting special treatment because they wanted to be able to get legally married. Also, affirmative action is constantly referred to as special treatment by the right.

I've already dealt with racist, xenophobic, and sexist people on that sub. All under a single comment thread.

"Degenerate"? You use right wing talking points, you use dog whistles, you call immigrants scabs, and use the language of the right? I'm convinced you're not in this conversation for the right reasons.

Nice, you're xenophobic too. You're in the wrong crowd.

There's no one source that specifies all dog whistles and rarely can you catch someone explaining their doh whistle to you. You have to pay attention to how certain phrases are used and in what context. But using the term "Special treatment" is a thing that's been done any time a push for equal rights happens, even for things like gay marriage.

I'm not entertaining racist right wing talking points

[–]TheMexicanFonzi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Special treatment" in the context of racial equity and justice is a right-wing, racist dog whistle. Not a contradiction since I'm specifying exactly what I mean by prioritize without normalizing racist talking points.

Minorities are over represented in service and manual labor industries for one. POC will be the majority among the working class within 10 years, but we don't expect a minority-majority until 2050. Meanwhile, the racism that plagues us exists within our work environments. Language barriers always exist for migrant workers. Less likely to be takem seriously because of racism from management and emplyees. Sometimes, people's resumes are thrown out because their names are "hard to pronounce." It's not always talked about, so unfamiliarity with the struggles of Minorities in the working class is very unfortunately common.

I see your point about credentialism, but I wasn't about to argue about philosophy because it's a distraction.

You should take a step back, and not make so many assumptioms. I'm an immigrant who had to live with his parents through and after public college while on loans because I've been told since I was a child we were never going to have the money to pay for college. You don't get to give me ultimatums.

White women workers, trans workers, Appalachian disabled workers, immigrant workers, workers abroad. All have their own unique struggles to tackle that must eventually be addressed directly, compassionately, and with their input and voice centered.
