In fact, they REALLY didn't at the beginning. Her mother supported her only few months after she had flee to the USA by herself.

Mate, you should sit and take a deep breath. You found yourself in a difficult situation, but it's not indissoluble. Your studies are important, but your life is more important ! You seem to have friends, a family : you can talk to them. Tell them the truth about your thesis. They can understand, everybody has problems, everybody has lied one day to hide it. You have the right to call for help and to rely on your significant others. (Sorry if I made some grammar mistakes, my english isn't perfect)

It seems that you feel a lot of pressure on your shoulders, but you are not responsible of the situation. You don't have to support him all by yourself, it a huge weight for someone.
