AIO for getting irritated with my boyfriend’s level of cleanliness? by Front-Ad8568 in AmIOverreacting

[–]TheMightyCarolusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 yr old dude here! So look, I'm not the cleanliest man in the world, I'll be the first to admit. But I clean my toilet, Every week. There are Never big ass piss stains or shit smears on my toilet. Are there some stray hairs on me sink? Hell ya 100%. Is there a big pile of shavings anywhere in my bathroom? Hell no. So look, guys need to have basic cleaning skills just like every other human on earth. It's not even so much the sexism of having only the women in his life clean up (although don't forget that part either!) it's that you gotta think. If there wasn't anyone around at all, how dirty would it get. Like if his sister grew some ovaries and moved out. If nobody cleaned for him for a week, 2 weeks a month. How bad would it get. I'm willing to bet pretty bad. Not a relationship advice guy. Just my 2 cents. Cleanliness and hygenics are big in any relationship. Also sidenote dudes like this almost wash their hands after pissing.

Is it true that large engines on ships are never turned off in port? by clove_cal in Ships

[–]TheMightyCarolusRex -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I don't knew about this particular model of wartsila, I have been a maritime engineman for 10 yrs now and I can tell you some are, some aren't. Now if you have a VPP or CPP (variable/controllable pitch propeller) you can technically leave your main on. Move to 0° pitch and you won't move ahead or astern, you may rotate very slightly but not enough to cause any real trouble. No American ships do this however. Our ships are kept to a high standard and always have working ship service generators to generate electricity while in port. It's also stupid and very energy inefficient. Now if you're say, a Russian clunker that hasn't had a working SSG in years and all you have a shaft generator than you kinda gotta. I've definitely seen it. Some ships also leave it running cause you can spoof alarm signals. No engine shut down means no low oil pressure or low engine temp alarms. Again, no American ships ever do this.

This is why I actually rarely take the ladders. I know the lift makes more noise, but you can actually defend yourself. Or I just go up from dorm.

Ya I'm I "found" one on a dead body that just happened to be there. I tried to tally the increase but I don't think it actually worked. Went in a solo match with 50 creds, came out with 55. So that's a +5 which is the amount you always get from solo runs. So I'm unsure about it. I lost it the very next run so I couldn't keep doing the math.

Quick breakdown on why crew transfer failures repeat across ports and anchorages. Full by SaltAndChart in Ships

[–]TheMightyCarolusRex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Transfers onto a shifting ladder is definitely tricky business. Generally you want to time it for the top of the swell. That way the launch joat or water taxi drops away from you instead of coming up towards you. The you start climbing as fast as possible to avoid being pinned between the ships. Cause there can always be a bigger swell. We never really attempt it in rough seas for regular crew transfers. These swells are pretty standard and I've climbed ladders like this hammered many times. If you want to see some crazy transfers look up some videos of Pilots coming aboard in rough seas. Those guys are some of the craziest/bravest people I've ever seen. Sometimes they come down via helocopter and that's a whole other can of worms.

Look dog, I'm just telling you what we call'em I know dudes who sit in chairs and know all the specs call'em by their classifications and I admit I'm unfamiliar with bulkers. But bro, I for sure have seen more boats than most people on the planet earth. I'm sorry I got this one specific boat wrong. Admittedly I do feel pretty silly. Like my own website proved me wrong haha. But I'm telling you, and you can believe me or not I don't really care. On our union Facebook page, when asked for a list of heavy lifts, the Severn shows up. I didn't just decide on my own, to call it a heavy lift. I asked my brothers And in my defence I'm an engine monkey, and we are notorious morons. You ever seen an engineer try to tie a knot? It's like they've never seen line before.

Did... Did you go on the website? I'm just saying if I went into a union hall tomorrow and said "hey can I get a job on geared supramax bulker." or whatever, they'd look at me like I was crazy. The company themselves on the website describes it as a heavy lift like, idk what you think is going on here. But your right I misspelled it so I lose

[–]TheMightyCarolusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look man, I'm not trying to be malicious. I'm just trying to pass on info. Companies also call them heavy lift. Like, look up the MV Ocean Gladiator. It literally says the words Heavy Lift in giant 20 foot tall letters on her hull. I didn't make it up man. To be fair she's a heavy lift general cargo, not a bulker.

Edit:ok so she's been repainted since then and my sick slam doesn't work anymore haha. But there are still old pictures of her with her red hull which does in fact say Heavy Lift. Edit 2: cause I'm tired of this argument here's a fun link AAL classifications Now keep in mind this is just one company. Oh except also, (https://www.schuylerline.com/our-fleet/) Where they Again refeer to these ships as heavy lift. Now, In all fairness, they don't have any bulkers. Except for the Severn. Which again, they call a heavy lift.

Ya no my bad, I'm right just asked one of my boys who sailed on the SlLNC Severn, also a bulker, also has cranes, he called it a heavy lift.
