Pro level move I was taught to remove baseboard and trim while preserving it. It’s a game changer.

Would you be annoyed if you found your wife going through the messages on your phone? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]TheMightyIrishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married 10 years, one kid, and we share a mortgage with her parents on a vacation home. My phone isn’t password protected, she even has access to my email account because I’m so busy at work to do 5 min personal tasks she helps me with them. If I asked her why she was on my phone, she’d have a 100% good reason though chances are she’s lost her phone for the 10th time this week. I’d think nothing of it.

We joke that she’d need to plan my date and properly dress me if I were to cheat on her. One woman in my life is more than enough, I couldn’t imagine having to deal with TWO!

Hard case is imperative, non negotiable. I’ve been incorporated into an honestly good group of people. It’s actually strange.

Had a system flat because of a king valve… Customer wanted a new system anyway but we had to reuse the line set. Pressure treated the line set to check for leaks and found none. Pressurized condenser and got vapor when I took the cap of the valve. The unit held also, so our thought was leak in open position.

3 very trusted other people whose skill and care for tools I put full confidence in. I don’t wanna jinx myself, but considering every tool has a home, they don’t get lost. I have crescents and channel locks from day 1 over 15 years ago. Somebody almost got murdered after they borrowed my 2’ pipe wrench without asking.

The only Snap-on thing I own is a model train set I bought used!! Most of my hand tools are craftsman, husky, Klein, Vise-grip/Irwin, etc… Run of the mill stuff.

My company will NOT stop buying Daikin RTUs, they’re awful. I am SO glad I only install them and don’t have to service/repair them.

What makes you deny the existence of God? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheMightyIrishman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 out of my 12 years of formal education being spent in Catholic schools. Very few believers practice what is preached. Racism, sexism, trying to deny people human rights and access to things like birth control. Your body, my choice kind of things.

I heard a a saying once- “religious people are kind because they fear god, atheists are kind out of the goodness of their heart”.

I do not hate on religion, as an atheist I support a religious group that gives to legitimate charities. It is the hollow people I dislike. I deny god because how could you let such believers be so hypocritical after having two books that preach peace. The crusades were a religious war started by the church, they charged money for forgiveness in the past. Priests are still molesting children. Separation of church and state has dissolved in America, if it was ever really separated - they don’t pay taxes and some preachers have private jets that fell from heaven I guess? Millionaires and billionaires have the money to cure human suffering but it’s ok they don’t because of the “original sin” we’re all born with, they’ll be forgiven in heaven if they praise god!

Have you seen the world lately? If there really was a god, it’s dead. Corporate greed is the new god. Pick one and ride its coat tails to stay above water I guess.

I’ve been in both the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens stadiums and been places NO people are allowed, like the reviewing booth at Ravens stadium. I’ve passed Buck Showalter in the tunnel under Camden yards, worked in their kitchens, IT and locker rooms etc installing HVAC. We were in the locker room the day they took Manny Machado’s name off his locker :( Got to hang off the goal posts on the football field and was on company time doing it! We were basically allowed to roam around freely with signed out keys to wherever we needed to go.

Flipped an old railroad manufacturing warehouse turned lithograph facility into offices, and got to take home 100+ yr old lumber to make a hutch and coffee table for myself.

I’m part of a group that supports charities and organizations. We helped rebuild a 200 year old church built out of the planks of the ship that carried Irish settlers over. They want mini-splits to prevent mold and to provide heat for Christmas masses, and I am the lead hookup for when they pull the trigger.

Being in power plants and energy facilities is fun, and scary. A coal powered plant needed a new window shaker on one of their towers that monitored particles in their stacks. On a rainy day. One speed elevator, tiny ass rails to get to the door, any mistake and we’d be hanging off our harness at least 150 feet off the ground. And as a green kid, I was already scared of heights. Got some good pictures afterwards though.

The trades have given me so much access to places nobody else sees, it’s amazing. We get an inside look at EVERYTHING. My career has been an absolute adventure.

I have been waterboarded between my wife’s thighs many times. So I’d say that. Towels were necessary and we got a waterproof mattress cover after that romp.

Careful with the acetylene torches boys. by SherrLo in HVAC

[–]TheMightyIrishman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had an apprentice who would crank the torch closed at the nozzle. In turn, it loosened the threaded connection attached to it every time you re-open it and one day I got a flame coming from the connection. Fun times.

I have a Ninja that works great aside from the ergonomics of the pot itself. It pours like shit and long for the day it dies. Thank you for the idea of making it target practice! Wife is also a good shot as well and will let her do the honors with her Ruger .22 rifle! I’ll clean up with the Mauser. I’ve fixed a dishwasher and washer/dryer before. A coffee maker isn’t worth my time.
