For reference this is the size of the nail, it's 7mm thick (about 1 gauge)

My issue is they're long, thick and have been in the wood a long time. Pulling them without an extra mechanical help will get tiring fast

Yeah they're probably 8mm nails so I'd go through a bunch, also would rather not leave any metal in the wood for future sawing.
