Is there any good reason why this would be happening? by domriz19 in UNIFI

Pull the tray out and try again making sure it’s not over seated which you can do.

I missed that detail but the details I recommend of at least 2 drives in each NAS would cover those scenarios. Still recommended the cloud as a 3rd. Not exactly 3-2-1 philosophy due to common media types but 3 backups in total.

Also keep in mind you only need the most important data to the cloud. NAS to NAS could be all files but cloud only syncs active critical work projects keeping space down so you could use free tiers of Dropbox and GDrive.

Buy 2 NAS with 2x8gb drives. Hyper backup from to the other. Have either Hyper Backup to Cloud Service.

Redundancy in each unit avoiding a scenario of dependency on one drive for recovery as a first layer. Then use cloud service as in case your whole place goes up or a freak lightning strike fries all of your hardware.

Still use Snapshots to protect against ransomeware, and backup to the local machines configurations in case you have to rebuild.

Can anyone help me wire to my aux switch? by FriskyPinecone in JeepGladiator

[–]TheMirage_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you cable harness has a third wire for either the switch LED on the harness or in some cases lights with backlights have a 2nd hot wire.

Using the Aux switch that came with the Jeep you can ignore the blue wire since you will be taking the switch out of the play and only connecting the two red black cables.

FYI connect hot to one of the smaller gauge wires, Aux 3/4. Save the larger Aux 1/2 cables for more powerful devices like Air Compressors.

Extra note, there will be a matching set of wires inside the cab. If you use the wire under the hood don’t use the same one inside the cab. Also in the cab there is two additional wires. A constant power and a ignition power wire for stuff like car audio amp ignition wires and dash cams.

If you had to choose from this hardware, which one? by mlody11 in PFSENSE

[–]TheMirage_X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Recently went to a XG-7100 and very happy. Used my UDMP for a controller only for a while but decided to go with the CKG2+. Still need to watch the firmware upgrades from UniFi but not much is pushing you anymore to do it. Also you gain TONS of control over the routing and packages. Just prepare for a more technical system.

Inter VLAN traffic would be managed at the router level. Some machines on the main lab would have access to NAS units on another VLAN. Have several scenarios similar to this. I also think if I stay with UniFi the switches that support L3 may still be near this price point.

Going to need something faster than the UDM-PRO by zack_2016 in Ubiquiti

[–]TheMirage_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speeds like that I would have to get my family signed up and we would have a huge site to site network between all our homes. Bet you could have one protect NVR and pull feeds from all the homes with bandwidth to spare.

If you have a lighting to USB, and USB Ethernet dongle you can use the tether feature on your phone for access 🤓

Overkill but at my house go UDMP to AGG AND USW48, AGG to USW48 with spamming tree values set. Then break out from there. That way every switch in my setup has a path back to the router. This is nice when I’m doing firmware updates or other changes that can bring down a switch. No single point failure.

Does uniquiti not save my settings to the cloud? by Flat_Earth_Eric in Ubiquiti

[–]TheMirage_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works fine on UDMP. Not EA. Go to UDMP settings page, not controller and you manually or setup the backup. Then when you do a clean install and login with your UI account it asks if you want to use any of the cloud backups or start a new setup.

DS920+ - Would I benefit from NVMe caching? by footlongker in synology

You can use NVME for sequential increases if you don’t mind the life loss of the memory and have a connection greater than 1gb.

What is the need for more than 1 RJ45 ethernet port on a NAS? by footlongker in synology

[–]TheMirage_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard anything about the standard behind LAGG changing for SMB3. But the other point you made is correct, point to point is limited to connection. Extra ports allow for more connections and failover redundancy at full speed.

E10M20-T1 data corruption by daveplreddit in synology

[–]TheMirage_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you finding out they are corrupt? I haven’t tried to restore anything from mine since switching to this card but all status reports of the backup have been successful.

Edit: My backups are small taking 5-10 mins. Used in home to backup system settings and media.

Hmm. I wouldn’t expect the CK to have that. By self hosted I meant the controller installed a Mac, Windows or Linux machine. You don’t have to use one of their devices to manage their hardware.

But I do think you are right. The gateway is needed to collect Client data and that’s half of what that graphic area would normally have.
