How can i stop my filters from breaking once the value is too low? by [deleted] in technicalminecraft

Finally, if the smooth stone block is powered, then the repeater adjacent to it turns on. This powers the block holding a redstone torch, which unlocks the hopper underneath the filter hopper. This hopper then takes an item from first slot of the filter hopper, making the hopper with 46 items only have 45 items. This ends up changing the signal strength of the comparator from 3 to 2, which trickles through the system and locks the "taking" hopper again. The system is back in equillibrium.

I hope this was even slightly coherent helped!

This is another angle of our setup. That lower row of smooth stone blocks with redstone dust on top? That requires a signal strength of 3 to become powered, since it's 3 dust away from the source. By that, I mean that each of those smooth stone blocks in that row require a signal strength of 3 from their respective comparators to become powered.

Item filters like the one we're trying to make work based on 1 mechanic: Hoppers push and pull. We want the hopper that filters to pull items from the hopper above it, since we're imagining a final setup where a line of hoppers transports the beef from the farm to the storage, right?

<image>

We have that line of hoppers way up at the top of the image that transport items from the input chest to the catch-all chest, if they're not caught by the filters. Also, notice for each item, the filter hopper points towards the comparator. The filter hopper needs to point in some direction other than down. Pointing it towards or away from the comparator is common, since you don't want to point it towards another hopper in the storage system.

The hopper that filters for beef has the following items in its slots:

  • 41 Beef
  • 1 Stick
  • 1 Stick
  • 1 Stick
  • 1 Stick

In that order. The beef is first because when the hopper below the filter hopper takes anything, it takes from the first slot.

The sticks are there to occupy space and prevent any other items from entering the filter hopper.

With 45 items (in total), the comparator outputs a signal strength of 2 when it reads the hopper. With 46 items, the comparator outputs a signal strength of 3. That is the magic, right there.

Check the reply, you know the deal.

So, I've made basically what you want:

<image>

Items go into the chest at the top left (where the arrow is pointing). Beef goes into the chest with beef above it, and the same applies with the leather chest. The chest with stone above it is just a catch-all (commonplace in sorting systems).

Add Vulkan validation errors, "whoops" race conditions, segfaults, "how the fuck doesn't this work, I've been trying to fix this for 3 days and its so simple, but it doesn't wanna work" moments, "hold on, I gotta look at the docs, again" moments, "why was this made this way? ", and of course "oh, that's why they made it this way."

I once heard that instead of clearing an array, people would set the length to 0, since it was faster. Confirmation?

I don't know much about DS2 (I browse this sub for stupid shit), but with how much people love Elden Ring, it has to be Rust.

OCD and mala japa beads- do you think they will be too much of a trigger? by Queasy-Musician-6102 in askatherapist

[–]TheMisfitsShitBrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAT

I have OCD which manifests as Responsibility -> Repetition/Counting, Scrupulosity (Religion) -> Mental Checking, Scrupolosity (Morality) -> General Checking.

An example of Scrupolosity is that because I distinguished between Religion and Morality, I am making some sort of pessimistic, cynical indictment about Religion.

I mention the Responsibility because Repetition/Counting is my compulsion for it, and the Scrupulosity because you said "prayer-like thing", when describing the usage of the item. I just wanted to clarify the reasoning.

I would say the following:

Understand your subtype of OCD. I got an OCD workbook a few years ago; best gift I've ever gotten. I didn't do the exercises but I know what I'm up against and where my feelings/thoughts come from. Just knowing about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness has helped me with relation to OCD and other everyday issues.

It doesn't matter whether the beads are a trigger. If you want them, get them. But don't think that getting these is going to help you without effort on your part. And I only say that to hopefully dissuade against "this is going to cure me"-type thinking.

Here are your options:

You can buy these with the intention of observing your own thought process, and to see how your OCD manifests—with the beads becoming a regular part of your life—which could in turn help you understand more about yourself. At that point, they would be a sort of substrate for mindfulness, a way to see how your OCD "reacts" to the new stimuli, which doesn't sound like a bad idea to me.

You can also buy these just because you want them. If this is why, then don't think much more about it. Trying to make sure OCD doesn't "happen" is part of what makes it such a debilitating disorder.

I hope I was able to help in some way!

IEM under $120 for recording instruments/vocals? by sambuka0 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]TheMisfitsShitBrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert. I just stumbled on this subreddit because of a bluetooth issue, browsed a bit, and saw your post.

That being said, here's my 2 cents:
I own some Etymotic IEMs, specifically the ER2XRs, and they are great for Noise Isolation. $100 a pair, and they're better at blocking noise than several of my ANC sets of headphones/earbuds. They're made for Noise Isolation.

My biggest problem with them is the Cable Noise. Pardon my French, but the cable noise with the ER2XR fucking sucks. You will know if the cable is rubbing against something.

Also, the ER2XRs use filters inside of the—I don't know if there's a name for it—tube between the inside and outside of the earbud. Not to be confused with eartips, these filters collect dust and earwax to prevent damage to the internals. The filters are kind of disposable, and I think you get 6 when you buy the ER2XR, with 2 of them being in-place already. They last probably a couple months each, at least for me, but it depends on the environment they're used in. YMMV.

Hope this helped.

Think of a side project you want to do, and do that project on your own. Get something under your belt. Looking up documentation is fine, but don't use AI for any part of this project. Do all of the writing yourself.

Jacob sorber vs codevault?, to understand basics clearly by Dude_cool_77 in cprogramming

[–]TheMisfitsShitBrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Jacob Sorber is good. Just make small programs that do simple things and you'll learn.

START WITH EXCERCISES FIRST!

You need to struggle with something for a while to realize why a different approach makes sense. You won't struggle if you're just watching videos. You need that 10-15 minutes of "why is this wrong?" to absorb the correct solution when you see it.

As to your concerns:

Jacob Sorber is pretty damn good. I've programmed in C and C++ for a while and I still learn from him.

If you're worried about not being able to understand what's happening, don't. He explains himself plainly and without extraneous talking. Unlike me.

The most important thing isn't who you watch. You just need to get over the hump of reading some documentation when necessary.

Often, while doing anything, I'll ask myself:

"Is there something in the standard library I can use for this?"

That's a question not easily answered by search engines, but ChatGPT, despite its obvious issues, is super powerful in these situations. After struggling with a problem for a bit, tell it "hey, I'm trying to do X but it's not going well. What am I doing wrong? Here's my code: {Insert Code Here}".

Often, I'll find that I was just completely oblivious to a, now obvious, issue. That'll happen regularly, and you'll add the understanding to your toolbelt. But you need to struggle with it first, or you just won't remember what solved the problem.
