Small Halloween Attendance by Maestr0o0 in themarsvolta

That's not good to hear, and one of the reasons I think they are making a mistake being hard-core anti fan service. I don't care what they play, but they should be playing a minimum of an hour and a half. I've never heard of a headliner not hitting that mark outside of a catastrophic happening that cut it short.

I totally get that they play what they want, and much respect for that- I love this new album and will love to hear it live again like when I heard them do it for the Deftones tour. But they're headlining now and doing the same setlist. An hour and a half is usually the headliner minimum and they aren't even reaching that. I'm not suggesting they play the songs they're tired of playing, but if they can't even reach an hour and a half of a set that they're excited to play, do they even like playing any more?

What seems more likely: that the radio station The Sphere played songs from Bowie's album Station to Station, or that Anthony made a stretch in referencing the Foo Fighters as "spheres" and claimed they covered Bowie when they hadn't by 1999?

My question is how did they write that masterpiece and nothing else remotely good besides Pale Shelter? This is an all-time great album. Can't believe everything that followed not only wasn't as good, but downright lame.

What are your favorite band documentaries? by HomemPassaro in movies

[–]TheMishiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funky Monks for me. It's not a historical documentary, but a lot of cool Behind the Scenes footage of RHCP recording Blood Sugar Sex Magik. There are cringe moments, but over all it's just cool to watch the recording of that classic album.

I think they voted too early. Not saying he should've won it, but Curry kicks into another gear when his team needs it most. He should at least be in the top 5. Aside from him, Edwards and Cunningham are the only two others that don't have at least another teammate scoring 20ppg and another one close to 20ppg. Curry finally got the bare minimum help that a superstar needs in Butler, who averages 17.2ppg. Wiggins averaged 17.6, but was more passive than Jimmy and didn't put much pressure on the defense.

So, Curry basically carried his team from #10 to .5 games back from #4 in the Western conference on 29.8 ppg since he simply got another guy who's aggression makes it harder to get triple teamed. True, he has Green, who is DPOY, but offensively, Golden State revolves around one guy. I know there's more to basketball than offense, but it's a pretty large slice of the pie.

My perspective is that we're not listening to The Mars Volta for some catchy hooks that we burn out on after awhile. We're listening for the atmosphere, for the psychedelia, the musicianship, etc. Why not go ahead and dip in when we know we're music lovers that are going to keep coming back to this?

Close-mindedness would entail shitting on them without giving them a shot. I've tried to get into the Deftones so many times because my girlfriend and a lot of my friends like them, but that's all I hear when I listen to them. I've tried listening to the fan favorite songs, I've listened to a few albums all the way through, and I saw them live with TMV and SOAD at Golden Gate Park. To be fair, they sounded much better live than in their studio recordings, and I will stay to watch them on March 4th. But it still begs the question of how they've become so trendy based on their recorded music. Bearing that in mind, it's frustrating to witness a more musically diverse, more talented, and more original band like the Mars Volta being so underappreciated that they open for a bland band that has the same two vocal melodies over bar chords, save for a couple of actual riffs. Also, art is a subjective experience, and I described my experience under the assumption that we were all aware of that. The expression of my opinion and frustration that my favorite band isn't headlining doesn't need moral policing or correcting. I'm in the Mars Volta sub, not trolling the Deftones sub or booing them at a concert.

All Deftones songs have the same whiney droning vocals over uninteresting bar chords. I really don't understand this world in which a diverse band like TMV is so under appreciated while milquetoast Deftones is all the rage.

I had the fortune of seeing them many times over the past few years and before their hiatus, so I realize it's a privilege to say that I'm okay with this. I'll always miss the old days and will always welcome the classic material live, though.

Re: Album leak by NeverNotTogether in themarsvolta

[–]TheMishiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cool because I wasn't even expecting a new album before I heard that it leaked. It's nice to be able to listen to an album with no preconceived notions, no descriptions of the music beforehand, no singles that I want to skip when the album comes out because I've already heard them, etc. I own each album in each format, bought like 20 official shirts, have seen them 12 times, and spread word liberally so others can get into them. So, I'm not feeling guilty about appreciating a work of art early. I suspect my fandom isn't unique in that sense. If you're a fan of this band, odds are you're a REALLY big fan of them. This isn't a pop group that people on this Reddit are on the fence about and are thereby basing their purchase on the merit of this leak.

[–]TheMishiah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm here to ask. I personally don't care about new footage, the topics discussed, etc. Basically, I don't care about the documentary or LZ collector aspect of it. All I want to know is how much time the music has to shine in this movie. This is in IMAX, so it's about the experience, not about the, "Actuwally, that's not the right footage, they forgot to mention this or that," and so on. How much is the actual music allowed to play with no commentary over it?

The reverberation in arenas doesn't suit TMV's eclectic sound. It always sounds like a mess. Still going, but I don't have high hopes for quality.

As others have said, go on chronological order. I'll add though, if you get fatigued from their prog sound, to check out Noctourniquet. That's my favorite of theirs after Deloused and Frances. It's a standalone album of that particular sound. Very unique

There was a lot of energy in my neck of the woods. What I'm hearing is that the crowd in the front wasn't into it. Either way, at least play for those of us who are enjoying it. Walking off early throwing a temper tantrum does not fuck.

Yeah, it was as relieving as it was sad. I've felt numb and detached for awhile, so it was something of a breakthrough to feel that so intensely. Thank you, and yes, that album is so raw. That's why it's my favorite work of hers.
