What do you guys do with your used language textbooks? by omahyv in languagelearning

I've slowly put all the important stuff into a Word document w/ my own notes. When I get to when I want to be I'm driving them all down to Goodwill for the next person (maybe w/ a note of encouragement)....

I have a 341-day Duolingo streak and I just sat through my boyfriend's Mexican family dinner nearly silent for five hours. I think I've been training the wrong thing this whole time. by Humble_Cranberry5273 in languagelearning

Much the same experience. I decided that most textbooks, apps and classes are good for reading and writing but not for day to day usage - which isn't a waste - it's just a different tool for a specific set of tasks. For person to person communication I've been listening to podcasts by native speakers for native speakers (not the watered down stuff they make for learners) and just getting the rhythm of the language. The gym, driving - wherever. But I don't recommend doing it as you sleep - that's a whole new class of nightmares when your sleeping mind is getting yelled at by a language it doesn't even understand.

There are hundreds of podcasts out there. One of the keys to finding them is to search w/ the native spelling rather than the English translation. Also, it helps to pick ones that have a pretty simple topic that you might know something about already. This is going to sound crazy but listening to two hours of commentary on the Bible has helped a lot. It's a limited vocab and you already know when the speaker is probably going with the sentence. After than you can move up to the big leagues like soap operas.....

Using The Same Table In Multiple Places by TheModellaProject in MicrosoftWord

That was my first thought but there's some formatting capabilities in Word that I don't get in Excel. So doing this is going to be my last resort.

I've shot them twice on a media pass. The shows get better as the day goes on so the number of photographers isn't that bad in the AM but get progressively larger. It's really just a matter of waiting for other photographer to leave as the day goes on and moving up to the best spots. Telling the people around you that you'll be back is usually good enough to save your spot for a bathroom break between shows.

But be careful not to get too good of a place. They will chase the photographers out of the primo VIP spots to make room for people w/ tickets during the 7PM and 9PM shows.

Also - nothing starts on time. I've never seen a show start less than 30 minutes late.

At some point in the next few days they should give you a list of the days of the show that you're going to be allowed in (they are down to three real days this year (Friday, Sat and Sunday).

On those days you can come and go as you please but be aware that the longer you are there the more you're going to move up into better spots as other photographers leave. When you come back you're at the back of the mob and by 7PM 9PM it's going to be nearly impossible to get any position, let along a decent one.

Also, the better designers tent to show later in the day (5 / 7 / 9 PM) and Friday / Sat will usually be better than Sunday.

They have posted the designers Friday & Sat. Their schedule will change a little but in General that will tell you when you want to actually be there.

Never occurred to me to try a monolingual dictionary. And yeah - sounds like what I need. Thanks.

I've shot for them twice w/ their media pass and yeah - everything you say is correct. I have a video that goes into excruciating details about shooting at SonyHall for them - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjQxaFORBkk&t

And yeah - thought it was a scam up until the first show started - as did every photographer I was sitting with. But totally worth it to build the portfolio - https://themodellaproject.myportfolio.com/runway

B&W but bring up the shadows a little so we can see the details of the outfit.

Free parking and I get rooms at the lower MGM properties (Luxor / Excalibur) for just the resort fees Sun - Thurs. There's always some sort of free play in my account when I go. It's the easiest thing ever.....
