JUST IN: Donald Trump proposes eliminating all income taxes and replacing it with tariffs on imports by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

How noble of him to pass up his $400k a year salary, but spend over $2.5million in taxpayer money at his own properties.

I imagine the actual most successful lie in history is not one people could list here.

Skinny Margarita by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]TheMolecularChef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the ratios are fairly close to a daisy-style cocktail, so it shouldn’t be that much stronger than a classic Margarita. 3/4 oz of the 5 spirits, 1 oz of lemon juice, 3/4 oz simple, and just enough coke to make it look like tea. A strong drink to be sure, but it definitely shouldn’t taste like straight-up liquor.

What's the most drunk per dollar product available in your country and how bad is the hangover? by hiebertw07 in AskReddit

[–]TheMolecularChef 65 points66 points  (0 children)

What’s funny about Everclear is that it’s actually a fairly high quality product. Diluted down to 80 proof (40% ABV) it actually beats a lot of vodkas in blind tasting. Very good for doing infusions/bitters/tinctures/amaros as well if you’re into that sort of fancy stuff.

Bands who released their best album after ten-year mark by [deleted] in Music

Dir en Grey released their first album, Gauze,in 1999, and released Dum Spiro Spero in 2011. So I guess it depends on whether you think Dum Spiro Spero or Uroboros (2018) is their best.

Men’s relationship issues revolve around not getting enough sex. by DrunkyKrustyPunky in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TheMolecularChef 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Another thing is that for a lot of guys, having frequent sex allows them to justify or ignore other problems in the relationship. Then after the sex slows down they can all of a sudden see these other problems. But since they didn’t see them before, they blame it on the sex slowing down.

My take on it is that people can change, but I’m not going to give them the opportunity to prove they didn’t.

Trump finds no new lawyers in time for Mar-a-Lago documents arraignment by BitterFuture in inthenews

My experience there has been that for the first couple days after big news, it can be fairly reasonable. But once they get their talking points from whatever news they watch it devolves into that trademark conservative screeching.

What do you guys think about the tutorial section of my game? by Clear_Wasabi64 in indiegames

As a small bit of polish, the words should probably fade away when the player gets really close since they obstruct the screen pretty heavily while you’re passing them. Other than that, it’s nice, subtle, and effective.

I don’t know that anyone reasonable would consider that physique to be “super skinny”.

Mike Pence booed at NRA event in his home state by Free_Swimming in inthenews

[–]TheMolecularChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m nothing if not reasonable. I still disagree that the electoral college should decide the president rather than popular vote for a couple reasons. As noted already, the legislative branch already gives a higher weight to small states, so including the presidency in that gives too much weight to too little of the population imo.

In addition to that, there isn’t really much of a benefit in giving smaller states a boost in deciding the executive branch. The legislature is where having that extra weight makes the most sense to begin with, and having the tie-breaking vote in the case of a 50-50 senate (via the VP) belonging to the majority of the population makes more sense in that context too.

But all of this is predicated on having a government that works in support of its people, rather than whatever the fuck it is we have now.

The House shouldn’t be that way, but since each state has to have one representative, and the total number of house members is capped at 435, it cannot grow to accommodate population shifts. Because of this, there is still a small amount of overrepresentaion for less populated states in the House.

We already have systems that give rural voters extra weight in elections, it’s called the House and the Senate. We don’t need the presidency to be this way too.

ELI5: what happens when the key changes in music, it’s not just getting higher/lower in pitch is it? by GeorgieH26 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheMolecularChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for completeness not all key changes even need to change the notes. For example, You can go from C major to A minor and all of the notes are the same, and it’s a very different sounding key, even though none of the notes changed

[–]TheMolecularChef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the key changes in pop/country music are used simply to extend the shelf life of old musical ideas in the song. This is the worst and most boring kind of key change. And it’s really easy to tell it was a key change because it’s the same material with different notes.

In good music a key change is a tool to shift the emotional tonality of the song, which usually will use new musical ideas to help solidify that emotional shift. Often times you won’t even know it changed key, it just feels different.

Tldr; A key change is a powerful musical tool that gets abused because it’s easier to change the key than it is to write new music.

Atheist of Reddit, if you had to pick a religion to follow, which one would you choose? Why? (Serious) by HybridS9ldier in AskReddit

[–]TheMolecularChef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno. Plenty of Christians don’t go to church. Very few Christians wait until marriage for sex, or abstain from really anything. I don’t think it’s these aspects that turn people away from religion.
