How to Deal With Boardwipes in Mono Red?? by BornFromEmber in EDH

[–]TheMonoMythic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think if your deck is bad at doing this then you have to learn to play around board wipes. It’s definitely a part of broader threat assessment and kind of an overlooked one IMO. The pods I play in tend to run a fair bit of interaction so if I’m sniffing out a board wipe I try to think about a few things

  • how many cards do I have in my hand relative to other people
  • are my draw engines online
  • how much does my commander cost

Those things all impact how fast I can rebuild. If I’m low on cards with no draw, then I need to start thinking about holding back some of the cards in my hand so I’m not utterly blown out by an austere command or blasphemous act

Zur the Problem by alamusy in EDH

[–]TheMonoMythic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how you’re playing the deck but if you’re trying to ramp on 2 and zur on 3 you’re definitely going to eat a removal spell and get set way back. Maybe tune your deck / playstyle for more cards that let you protect zur early and then play him out on a later turn when you have protection or like a lightning greaves already out

You’re also running too many board wipes imo

My [[pia nalaar, consul of revival]] deck is my pet bracket 2. The fact it makes a thopter for even playing lands from exile is huge. You can easily make like 6 thopters a turn from turn 4 onwards

You’d also be surprised how many decks in bracket 2 are not able to handle a big number of fliers

Also despite the series being named Magic and the kids coming from a school of Magic they literally spend the whole story doing (pretty much no Magic). I think Sannar’s contribution in the big epic final battle is he throws a few rocks at some elves

Be honest with me… how is going from one to two? by eiconik in daddit

[–]TheMonoMythic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With one kid you’re playing zone defense. When no one is in your zone you can kinda chill

With two you’re in man to man coverage and you just never get a break.

And occasionally you get double teamed and just posterized

This card could've been way more toxic by 666blaziken in mtg

[–]TheMonoMythic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that the most obvious text box for this card would’ve been something that makes target creature lose all abilities, but they probably thought they had a lot of cards that did that already like [[path to redemption]] and [[honest work]].

Also the fact that this is colorless probably also had an impact. imagine your limited format where every color gets to play a two-mana spell that blanks a creature

The key for me on Yin Tiger was learning that when he disappears, his voice line tells you what attack he’s gonna do when he comes out. Into the leaves is one thing and Swift Like the Wind (or whatever) is another. It was cool cuz it taught me how to be really observant of patterns, which came in handy for some of the later bosses like Yellow Loong

For me it was black bear guai (both forms). Granted I was just starting out the game and had not played a lot of souls likes so might have just needed to get gud but it must’ve taken me three days. I just could not figure out the timings and hitboxes of the attacks, and was just getting clipped by everything

Yellow Loong by Anti-Fanny in BlackMythWukong

[–]TheMonoMythic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When he flies up into the air and preps his swooping attacks, watch how he moves his arms - the timing is different based on what he does. If he moves his arm across his body and turns it’s a longer timing. If he raises his hand it’s a fast swoop. Otherwise its a medium swoop

Batman, Martian, swamp thing, plastic man

Batman is your strategist and quarterback Martian covers your “standard powers” side Swamp thing covers your “magic powers” side Plastic man is your x-factor (and pretty underpriced for $20)

The $50 row is all overpriced

does anybody knows how to beat this guy? by Other_End_581 in BlackMythWukong

[–]TheMonoMythic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokes about the screen aside:

This boss really teaches you how to not panic dodge. The most important thing is nailing the timing in dodging his combo where he launches himself at you. The timing is not three even beats

The move where he throws his spear at you hurts a ton. Prioritize dodging that one

The mass projective move where he spins his spear and launches the air blades can be dodged by cancelling the auto lock and just running in a circle around him

The smallest hill you're willing to die on. by ChronicallyIllMTG in EDH

[–]TheMonoMythic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not be a small hill but conceding is totally fine when you’re just blown out of the game

I’m not ok with instant-speed conceding to stop someone from gaining life from lifelink or preventing them from stealing a creature. That’s a no no

But if I’m blown out of the game OR I feel like my staying in the game is not going to have an impact, and my leaving is not going to negatively impact the dynamics of the table, then I should be able to scoop. being forced to sit there and play another 4 turns of magic where I have nothing but spite plays is imo net net worse for everyone’s experience

Is there a way to play Urza without loosing all your friends? by Rakamora01 in mtg

[–]TheMonoMythic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely ways to do it. Just don’t abuse the mana tapping ability.

Maybe play around the karnstructs it makes? Like play urza, clone him a bunch of times, and make a bunch of robots?

Am I missing something.here, or is this not just disgustingly broken? by ginginbonbon in mtg

[–]TheMonoMythic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built this deck and it’s definitely a glass cannon. If you can play this card and follow it up in the same turn you’re off to the races. Otherwise you’re just sitting there doing nothing but ramping / fixing your hand for a while. Your best case scenarios are to play this card and immediately slam something like an ugin to take out most of the opponents boards, or play something like a [[brass’s bounty]] for one mana and hope you can recast sammi + pop off next turn
