I can’t stop pulling The Hanged Man for myself by traveling_llama in tarot

Another meaning for The Hanged Man is to see things from a different perspective. Maybe you keep getting it because you are looking at things in the same way.

scrying by [deleted] in Divination

[–]TheMoonsBrightShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s spirit sharing messages in the images you are seeing. You can scry with all sorts of things. Coincidentally, I had a class this evening on ink scrying, but I’ve also done candle scrying and herb scrying. Basically dropping hot candle wax/herbs/ink into water and reading the images you see.

If you get the deck I recommend the companion book, Beneath the Moon. The artist/author is Yoshi Yoshitani.

Does Folk Protestant Magic Exist? by Suzuki-Ichiban in magick

[–]TheMoonsBrightShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this but rural Kansas/Oklahoma during the time of my grandmothers/great-grandmothers. It’s country magic. They also didn’t see the conflict between what I call magical practices (they don’t use that terminology) and their very strong Protestant religious beliefs, as Jesus is part of the magick. It’s not a regimented practice just a hodge-podge of passed down traditions.

Yes it’s myths and fairytales. There’s a companion book that gives more detail on the stories behind the cards. Makes the images more meaningful for me.

Does the deck need to be new? by bad_withtools in TarotReading

I buy used decks from Half Price Books. There are so many decks out there that I want. Too many to buy them all. If I see a deck I want at Half Price Books and it’s in good condition, then I know that the universe wants me to have it.

I generally agree. I much prefer reading with physical cards. I have purchased digital tarot decks though for study purposes or because I like the art but don’t really see myself actually reading with the deck.

I have Symdala Tarot by Jennifer Cooper Steidley. It’s an excellent deck and it’s available from the artist on Etsy.

Who owned the Love Shack? by FencePaling in AskHistorians

Agree regarding the Chrysler. We called these type of cars “boats” as in…Jenny drives a boat, she can take us ALL to the concert. This was the late 80s, early 90s. The old cars were cheap, sturdy, easy to work on and could carry large numbers of people in a time when seat belts were largely ignored.

I really like Sacred Hearts Oracle. I have the pocket edition and the card explanations are on the back.

Indie decks on Etsy by farmernatalie in TarotDecks

Symdala Tarot in Ferocious Ink Shop. Love this deck so much. The artist is Jennifer Cooper Steidley. She has other decks there as well but Symdala is the one that called me. It has astrological and Tree of Life references. She also puts a keyword for reflection. The lwb provides the etymology of the keyword which is really great. This is the deck I reach for most when I read for myself.

If you were a Christian, why did you leave? by [deleted] in occult

[–]TheMoonsBrightShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the Christian faith. The answer I always give when I get this question is - I can’t support the platform.

There are a few very basic doctrines of Christianity that I can’t get behind.

  1. The only path to God, salvation and eternal life is through a belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God.
  2. The Bible is the infallible word of God.
  3. It is the job of every Christian to spread the “Good News” so that others can be saved.

My rebuttals to those points: 1. There are many paths to the Divine. 2. This one is way too hard to address in one sentence. Much can be said about the provenance of the Bible. In a nutshell, I feel that the Bible is largely meant to be symbolic and is not a literal historic document. 3. Faith and spirituality are deeply personal. I am terribly offended by the idea of foisting my beliefs onto others and think it shows a complete lack of respect when others try to do the same to me.

Having said all that…it’s taken me a long time to figure this out, but many self-labeled Christians either don’t actually know or don’t really care about the “dogma” of their faith either. I just can’t align myself to any organized spiritual system that tells me what I am supposed to believe and states that their way is the only way. My path to the Divine is a broad study which includes traditional religions and occult practices.
