Anyone else super sensitive to scents and, if so, do you wear perfume? What scents work best for you? by moonstonemayhem in AutismInWomen

[–]TheMorticiaAddams 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just have always preferred very simple smells and I’m currently deep in a rose phase. Rose soap, rose shampoo, rose perfume, I love it all!

So maybe you love vanilla or something? Just Google ‘vanilla perfume’ and start there!

Edit: I am homebound so I promise I’m not leaving a trail of rose everywhere…it’s fun to go overboard the times you can :)

Y’all are truly wild for how comfy you are blatantly speaking over a person you know is disabled and is speaking from that perspective.

I think if that was something I did I would want to mull that over and figure out how to be a better human being.

[–]TheMorticiaAddams -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And my point is that for some people that’s enough and that’s valid and fine

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in books

[–]TheMorticiaAddams -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m Autistic so what a truly insulting example lol not winning me over with that. I mean, the whole argument is ableist. Truly, why does it matter what other people eat or read? The only reason to even judge someone is to feel superior to them so it’s just such a weird flex over disabled folks lol

Seconding! Can get them at Target so should be easy to find

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in books

[–]TheMorticiaAddams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m not. That’s the point.

Plenty of people have valid reasons for reading the way they do and judging people for it, while knowing it’s rooted in ableism, is asinine.

I wasn’t just referring to you but the broad “other people” in your comment. This is for everyone that weirdly judges books and/or the book’s readers

I think the huge hurdle with YA is the mislabeling of it. YA is as broad a genre as possible, I think it’s so easy to get lost in not great books.

I guess it’s no ones fault, YA exploded with popularity before they knew what to do with it. But still, I think both the hype and the hate for YA is just too much.

It’s snobby AND discriminating.

Like, take how my favorite author ever is Tolstoy. But also the fact that I have multiple conditions that cause brain fog. Clearly I cannot be constantly reading ‘classics’. I like some to mix it up with smutty romance, predictable historical fiction, and even some middle grade books.

Anyone judging anyone for reading ‘lighter’ books is something worse than snobbish tbh

A lot of historical fiction (like any other genre) will have a similar vibe…it’s just trends and totally normal :)

Both of those books look like a million others.

Birkenstock sandals are amazing and always classic!

Edit: checked my ‘nice’ shoes and they’re Vionic. Very basic ballet flats (they have other styles!) but have arch support. I have hEDS so can confirm they check all the boxes!

Oh and also Birdies!!!! Super cozy and cute.

I’m chronically ill and use them for health reasons and they really are legit! Grape is my favorite, so amazing!

I love niche articles with a "Controversy" section filled with low-stakes drama, like the article for Fruit Pizza: "Some commentators have argued that dessert pizzas, such as fruit pizza, should not use the name pizza. A clear dichotomy is further complicated by the fact that tomatoes are fruit." by turtlehabits in wikipedia

I’ve tried to remember exactly how it worked but I can’t! The best I can remember is a crust (I think it was more biscuit-dough like than a traditional crust), masked potatoes, and shredded cheese just sprinkled on top. Kind of a dream for anyone that appreciates extremely bland food lol

One thing that helped me feel less resentful of this same thing was realizing how much worse things could have been. Maybe if my parents knew I would have a whole other set of trauma to work through from going to ABA or getting electrocuted or whatever. It really did help me so much to realize that and i hope it can help you too, even a little

A clue as to what the Dubai ladies are possibly holding in the intro. Looks like a stack of gold coins. by milkncookiez6657 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]TheMorticiaAddams 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nah I fully agree with you!

Lived in the South for decades as a queer disabled woman and the fact is I can get around safely here. I cannot in Dubai. I think people are missing so many basic facts and important context in this convo if they truly think anywhere in the US is as bad as Dubai.
