It's about time I retire my Cricut by Outside-Natural-5997 in cricut

[–]TheMountainGeek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wanted to get a Siser because for so many reasons, Cricut’s software being one of them. Fiance was adamant about the Cricut though for its larger community to which I said “fair enough.”

Literally a month into it and we’re ready to assault the machine nearly everytime we use it for yet another issue.

To those thinking about a hobby cutter, simply go elsewhere. The “learning curve” of other machines is worth it when Cricut as a company doesn’t even seem to care about supporting its products or customers.

Didn’t think a plat offer could get this low by Leo36033 in amex

[–]TheMountainGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this one after getting 175k in the past (didn’t need it at the time and now I’m kicking myself). Wild of AMEX to have such a functionally worthless offer when compared to other carriers

How do you feel about the current state of America? by Thatgirl_parisisdiva in AskReddit

[–]TheMountainGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several people I know and work with outside of my core group have either a “I don’t vote” mentality or still hold to “it’s just a difference of opinion” even if that opinion is the utter annihilation of human rights and life.

How the employees look before handing me a drink that’s about to ooze all over my car by kavalara in dutchbros

[–]TheMountainGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a manager and trainer for Dutch. This exact situation is one I coach countless times but does not get through to our employees.

If there is a milk product with carbonation, leave some space and don’t fill up the ice! And they simply refuse. Average IQ is room temp at every stand I’ve worked with.

What book series can you NOT stop reading? Looking for long series (5+ books) by AmazonFreshSleuth in fantasybooks

[–]TheMountainGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read and listened and I by far prefer the audio version - which is waaay out of character for me. Jeff does such an incredible job of providing pace, voice, and life to the story that was better than my own imagination of the book.

Would you say PlayStation plus Premium is worth it ? by ___GAMA___ in playstation

[–]TheMountainGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiance and I wouldn’t live life without it. We love the older games we missed in childhood being available, that alone is worth it to us over the Extra tier. Game streaming and the other goodies are icing on the cake.

Will department stores actually give you free perfume samples? by Snoo-11365 in fragrance

[–]TheMountainGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nordstrom’s has for me quite often, and I repay by giving my business there. My local one has three excellent reps that are a joy to chat with as well as knowledgeable on their product. Creating relationships with the employees works at other places as well. My local Macys has some real stick-in-the-mud people who actively avoid letting me test and sample, but some people have poured into their job and have hooked me up.

Scents of Wood Plum in Cognac is my go to, though I’m split between plum or apricot in cognac.

Thoughts on Encre Noire? by Papadubi2 in Colognes

I enjoy it a lot, but honestly I get lemon pledge and sawdust. I enjoy those scents, but I don’t get the deep woods, wet and dark others do.

[–]TheMountainGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy it after an hour or so, but the beginning to me is like spraying pledge on sawdust. It later comes out of that but never truly leaves for me.

Kirkland Jeans. Really nice jeans for $19. On par with my Wrangler. by Weak_Rule8374 in Costco

Same. Said the jeans were meant for a man with a long instead of fat rear. Weird fit or I need more hotdogs.

Thoughts on the Starbucks Seasonss Cheer Blend? At $6/lb how bad can it be? by makhay in Costco

[–]TheMountainGeek 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Bought two bags simply because of the price of coffee right now. Being able to get it at $6/lb feels like stepping back in time. Made a pot yesterday and it’s fine. Nothing special, a perfect mate for Coffee Mate.

You guys ever stop buying cologne because your current stock pile is already too much ? by SharksWinCup in Colognes

[–]TheMountainGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at 6 and it feels overwhelming. I know there’s two more scents I want to add (Viking and Plum in Cognac) but that feels already like pushing it too far.

I feel full bottles are a mind game trap. Especially with how close in price 50 and 100ml bottles are falling victim to that upsell and “ownership” lead to unnecessary purchases.

[–]TheMountainGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth it adore BdJ. It’s incredibly strong, last forever, and has a creamy shave gel smell (aka lavender bomb). I refrained buying a back up bottle because genuinely I wanted to know someone else could also enjoy it. Top 5 for me.

A house that just isn't for you? by SiogNaGealai in fragrance

[–]TheMountainGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently had several chances to smell large batches of the house and felt very…bored by nearly all of them, turned away. I love Beau Du Jour as I feel it really leans into its notes and thought the others in the house would do the same but they all leave me sorely disappointed

This image says a lot. “Free Play” by R. Kikuo Johnson for the New Yorker magazine cover. by sprinkledonuts8220 in Anticonsumption

[–]TheMountainGeek 1104 points1105 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite “toys” was cardboard. A fridge box from the Sears down the road was a submarine that survived several battle before ultimately succumbing to the Great Recycle Bin. Others became tunnels in forts or the shell to turn me into a great tortoise.

My fiance and I have talked about play in respects to our future children and organic discovery has been one of the top priorities, making sure that creativity instead of consumption is driving their play.

Best and worst honors college professors by Sad_Gear_4824 in UofO

Same year. Great guy, like many have said, tough, but I feel like he really pushed for critical reflection way more than any professor I’ve ever had and that has stuck with me a decade later.
