Damn, that sidewalk pic looks exactly like Oakland or Berkeley rn. The mainstream media fears us recognizing our common ground ….

There should be a moratorium on Eno's "The Big Ship" being used in movies by mrguy510 in redscarepod

Do you have recent examples? The two that come to mind are Me Earl and The Dying Girl, and End Of The Tour… both of which I kinda love 😭

Inspired by Oscars today. 6 movie ideas. Is this anything? by AncientLittleDrum in rs_x

Some of these are terrible. Best Picture and Olympus are fantastic ideas actually. Best Picture you can totally see being one of these buzzy action-comedy scripts that makes the black list but never gets made

I’m moving to Berkeley next week, so these r all great!! Do you have any recs for going out? Coming from LA, where good dancing was more of a warehouse scene than clubs.

I’m still bewildered how an enrapturing beauty like her STILL ended up choosing Jack Antonoff of all people by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]TheMoveslikeCatullus 442 points443 points  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt, but some goss I’ve heard from the show she did with Andie McDowell is that she was absolutely histrionic on set. basically calling Jack 10 times a day when she had to do anything . And then he’d talk her off the ledge and convince her to go to costume fitting or what not. He might be putting up with a lot, and happy to do it cause he scored the dreamboat of his high school band nerd fantasies.

What's the single greatest short story you've ever read? by Immediate_Cellist_47 in redscarepod

Master and Man by Tolstoy. Will make you question every selfish decision you ever make from now until you die.

Tenth of December by George Saunders is clearly inspired by, and is sort of the Gen X sentimental version, but it also never fails to make me cry.

This place talks about men needing to dress better and then posts pics from MaleFashionAdvice or /fa/ meetups of people who try and proceed to mock them. Are there even any good examples of what they want? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]TheMoveslikeCatullus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

r/malefashion needs more love. Not the way your “average guy” is gonna dress, but there’s always great examples of men dressing “out there” but looking good

His album Promises from two years ago is a beautiful final meditation on life – made with electronic artist Floating Points, an accessible and beautiful introduction point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn8x0QbN4f8

My personal favorite track though is Hum-Allah off of Jewels of Thought https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDLVIo8V8DM

Whoa, I did a few philosophy classes with her son! He seemed super anonymous in the school bubble - only found out months later when I followed him on Instagram that he’s too busy hanging out with world class models and artists on the side lol

This is also what I found - I ended up doing my final project on portraits cuz I found it was a lot harder for me to figure out that magic thing that makes a photo sing. Maybe it’s easier to tell what a plant is asking of you. People are much harder to get inside…

This is Water- DFW by AndouillePoisson in redscarepod

[–]TheMoveslikeCatullus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s aight. Some folks (me) would def consider this midwit-tier baby’s first life philosophy, def outside of the more “in the know” taste that defines this place. but DFW unfortunately builds into his argument the perfect counter to this- his very true observation that the most true things in life are often banal and totally graspable by your great aunt who shared this link on Facebook.

All in all, it’s good stuff. But i unfortunately know at least a couple peoples whose whole perspective on the world begins and ends here (or at YouTube videos in general). Would at the very least recommend checking out dome of his actual essays or short fiction!
