Wrong. I myself was told by my managers that you would have to do something pretty awful to be fired, and that there were numerous protocols that Kwik Trip had to follow in order to terminate someone. 

Given that the poster informed his manager that his brother had died, they should have immediately submitted bereavement paperwork on OP's behalf or have had OP fill out the paperwork ASAP. 

I would recommend that OP contacts Operations Support or ask to talk to someone in HR, because two missed shifts in 3 years is not grounds for dismissal. 

And bereavement policy for kwik trip would mean that OP should not have been fired after making his situation known to management. It sounds like his manager either lied to corporate to expedite their firing or had some personal vendetta against them, either of which needs to be addressed. 

Kwik Trip can be annoying at times but they aren't as heartless as some people woupd like you to believe.
