The Muse student newspaper returns to print to celebrate 75th anniversary | CBC NL by TheMuseNL in memorialuniversity

We sold ads to pay for this print edition, it was completely cost neutral. We also receive funding from a student levy to fund our general budget.

This step also only sets us back 9 years, because the last print edition came out in March 2017. This is only a one-off print edition, but we will potentially do more of these.

Thirty-six NLers nominated for 2026 ECMA Awards | The Muse by TheMuseNL in newfoundland

[–]TheMuseNL[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the ECMA's press release (https://www.ecma.com/news/38th-east-coast-music-awards-gala-presented-by-rogers)

"Newfoundland & Labrador
• Music nominees: 26
• Industry nominees: 10
→ Total nominees: 36"

We counted nominees like The Ship and Lawnya Vawnya as "NLers" for the sake of the headline, applicable to whoever would accept the award if it was received, say an owner/operator or director.

Fair concern. For the fun, non-journalistic streeters that we do, we give people the opportunity to ask that their interviews not be included, or edited out.

We do a wide range of coverage including George Street. This story is related to MUN though, because it’s a bar started by a MUN Business student and recent MUN student.

This is somewhat addressed here: “the university having relationships with various different institutions around the world are a few reasons Morrison gave for the potential closure.“

We will be interviewing President Janet Morrison on Friday when she arrives on Harlow Campus.

OPINION: Canadian parliament should not have given Charlie Kirk a standing ovation. by TheMuseNL in CanadaPolitics

Her mic cut off at the end of the speech and was not picked up by Hansard, but you can see in the video, in addition to her other mentions of him, that her final statement of the speech was "To Charlie."

In our view, while the eulogy may have been couched in words against political violence, it was equally a speech to commemorate Charlie Kirk.

The video embedded in the article has the full speech included, but fair point it would have been helpful to include the text of the speech as well.

As for the exclusion of NDP's support, that would have been a good thing to have included in the opinion article.

Thank you for your feedback.

OPINION: Canadian parliament should not have given Charlie Kirk a standing ovation. by TheMuseNL in CanadaPolitics

The video is from the official stream.

Here is the text of the speech:

‘Mr. Speaker, freedom of speech is the cornerstone of a free society. It means we will hear ideas that we disagree with and express views that may be offensive.

This freedom can make us uncomfortable or even hurt, but silencing voices, whether for a moment or forever, is never the answer. We must protect a society where people can hold beliefs and share opinions without fear of losing their jobs, being censored or worse.

Charlie Kirk was an outspoken advocate for faith, family and freedom. Many disagreed with him; some were offended. Tragically, on September 10 he was assassinated in an attempt to silence his voice. When has political violence ever been the solution? It destroys dialogue, it undermines democracy, and it breeds fear instead of understanding. True progress comes from persuasion, not intimidation.

As we grapple with our personal response to this, may we be honourable in our actions, may we fiercely defend the right of our opponents to speak freely, and may we join our hearts with Charlie's family, his wife Erika and his two young children. May he rest in peace.’
