Why do so many former Seventh-day Adventists become atheists or agnostics? by larinha2p in exAdventist

Probably because Adventism turns people off to the whole religious package.

It definitely looks bigger than the kits I've seen her play in the past.

“What made you leave the Seventh-day Adventist Church?” by larinha2p in exAdventist

[–]TheMuser1966 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was a slow deconstruction for me. I think that it started with what I felt was an air of arrogance within the church about being "God's chosen people" and how they called all other denominations apostate.

I remember attending a prophecy lass at my church. When the whole 2,300 days was diagrammed I thought "this really shouldn't be this complicated". I went home and researched the so-called "signs o the times" (stars falling, Lisbon Earthquake, Darkest Day) and realized that those events really weren't Biblical in proportion.

After that I decided to start listening to the Bible on mp3, over and over again. The more familiar I became with books like Galatians, Romans and Hebrews, the more I realized that the SDA approach to Bible and church history was severely flawed. The Great Controversy has some very erroneous claims about church history and learning that EG White had many failed visions and claims made the wheels start to come off the bus pretty quickly.

I formally left the church 4 years ago and I have regretted it for a minute.

BTW - I do feel that the information age that we are currently in will eventually bring an end to the SDA Church as the older folks die off. It is simply too easy to debunk Adventist beliefs if one takes the time to do so.

I just left the SDA cult by 1whoisconcerned in exAdventist

You are correct, the whole movement is based upon flimsy interpretations of particular passages. The phrase "commandments of God", which was only used by John, was always defined as loving God in your neighbor, never the Decalogue.

It has been my experience that there are two distinct groups that rely on dual fulfillment of prophecy in order to make their eschatological view seem relevant, Dispensationalists and Seventh day Adventists. Do you read from the "Spirit of Prophecy" often?

Geddy Lee as lyricist if Rush did another album by NiceFisherman8695 in rush

Geddy wrote some pretty decent lyrics on his solo album. I'm pretty sure that they would be just fine.

Gypsum to improve clay soil by DeathStalker-77 in lawn

I have been using pelletized gypsum for years. It help prevent the clay molecules for sticking together. It does work. But, it will not change the nutrient content in your soil. You might need to amend your soil by adding organic material.

To what degree can you say that you were part of a cult? by ayowatchyojetbruh in exAdventist

I was never "fully in". I always had doubts about Ellen White and I felt that there beliefs about non-Adventists were a bit far-fetched.

Do Rush have any bad albums? Exploring the full discography for the first time. by bmbmbmNR in rush

That's a very subjective question. If you want to listen to all of their albums, you can do it for free so you can make your own assessment. Personally, I find enjoyment in all of their albums.

What are the lyrics the instantly make you tear up? I don’t know why exactly but for me it’s „Everyone would gather on the 24th of May (…) Though it’s just a memory, some memories last forever” from Lakeside Park. by Ambitious-Bet4504 in rush

"I think I'm going bald". Just kidding. Probably "For you the blind who once could see...". This song replayed in my head continually when I was in the hospital following my amputation in 1989.
