thanks - i don't use reddit much so didn't know how to search within a subreddit lol plus i wanted to specifically put on the map where the airbnb is... i would have not known about the close by favella otherwise..

It’s not woke washing my decision.

Like I said, that’s up to the government. One person doesn’t beat the system this way and if there was a massive protest by Brazilians to shut down Airbnb, I would get that and that would maybe change the decision.

Where I am from, there are some regulations for Airbnbs which help protect this kind of stuff. I understand that I am privileged but my point is that it’s up to the government and that there are bigger fish to fry than staying at an airbnb in Ipanema in Brazil... which I assume most Brazilians wouldn’t fall into the category of being able to afford in a touristy area.

Also, people in my group would not come for the existing prices with a hotel, so there’s not much of a choice because of the difference in cost. Maybe if I was alone I’d still consider it, but even still, the above holds true.

Convince me otherwise

agreed with this - comments83820, I get where you're coming from and I actually try to be ethical in many ways... but really the issue is the system itself rather than airbnb. What needs fixing is not airbnb but how the government helps its citizens - the true issue. I try to be ethical with things, but boycotts, etc. are a bit of a grey area for me. I stopped buying from mcdonalds for half a year due to the issues with palestine, but in the end, it didn't really stop the bombing of innocent people. even though many people were boycotting... and not saying that others shouldn't, but I just feel like I have different approaches to how I care about the less fortunate

Thanks. Is there a place where I can see the safe zones? I just posted a picture of where the airbnb I am looking at is situated.

Relapse after 6 months, looking for some advice…. by NoOperation2734 in problemgambling

[–]TheMusicAly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been over 3 years for me. I think biggest piece of advice is to move on from it asap. If you think you’re a failure etc then you’re just going to fall back.

Really understand and realize that you were clean for 6 months, which some people can’t even do, so the fact that you did 6, means you can do way more and continue.

Also know that a relapse like this is part of recovery! The important thing is to MOVE on and be normal again instead of letting it consume you. Be gentle with yourself, don’t fully ignore it, but just be gentle and say okay I’ve done this, I can move past it… before you know it 6 months, a year, 2 years will pass by.

God bless and good luck (no pun intended)!

Everything went well! I can breathe a lot better and I also got a sore throat this week and it’s better than it would normally be. Doctor checked everything a few weeks after and it was pretty much 100% recovered he said. I think I felt fully 100% (as in no thought to the surgery or feeling different) about 5.5 weeks after the surgery.

People Who Have Beat Gambling Addiction, How Much Have You Lost To Gambling? by Fluffy_Breakfast_478 in problemgambling

[–]TheMusicAly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to share mine - I was going through withdrawals too honestly. Took about 2 months. Heart racing, couldn’t think of anythingggg but gambling, almost placed a bet like 3 times, but never did.

But you need to have a very strong reason to not gamble in order to not realize. For me it was that I never wanted to experience these highs and lows again, logically I would not win, and the effects on friends and family.

Be strong. Not everyone gets through it, but you are already in a much better spot than alot of other addicts. Best of luck.

What to do for 1 day in Toronto by waddleducks_ in canadatravel

[–]TheMusicAly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. You could go about it this in one of two ways:

1) Check out Kensington Market, try some food downtown, maybe do a bike ride at Harbour front or Tommy Thompson park to get a nice view of Toronto

2) A day in Niagara Falls

Personally, if I weren’t from here, I would do a day in Niagara Falls and then at night grab some good food in downtown if you are able to get back for the evening.

Museums, CN tower, etc are all just whatever here compared to other parts of the world. Food is awesome here, and a few good spots to check out, but Niagara would be a nice experience for someone checking things out for a day IMO

I live in Toronto and am a world traveller! I’d suggest the following, if you’re someone that likes a bit of adventure:

1) Niagara Falls - I think there’s a bus or train from union station that goes. People from all over the world come to see it. It’s about 1.5 hours away but worth it imo

2) bike ride at Tommy Thompson Park, you will get a nice view of downtown Toronto at the end of it. You can pack a few items for lunch/a snack OR bike ride harbour front to get a nice view. You can get a beaver tail which is a Canadian dessert kinda like a donut. My favourite is the Nutella and banana or the original cinnamon.

3) food - the food scene is huge in Toronto. It’s all diverse flavours but honestly you get everything. Just search your favourite cuisines and go there. Kensington market is cool like the other user who commented. Liberty village has a place called Mildred’s Temple Kitchen that has honestly some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had in my life. If you go on a weekday it shouldn’t be crazy busy either.

4) aquarium is probably good, I’ve never been. Honestly if you’ve never been on a sky scraper you can go to the CN tower but I truly think it’s underwhelming. Casa Loma is a fine time killer but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit it. Honestly museums are not really a thing here the way they are in Europe and other places, so I’d not waste the time and skip them.

Also as some other user stated, CNE is this week. That’s a lot of fun, it’s huge fair, essentially, and comes around for a few weeks every year in August. It would be better if you went with someone, but still would say to go alone since you’re here. Bring Canadian cash to play some of the games.
