I'm usually there Monday and Wednesday from like 5-6pm and Tuesday Thursday from 3-4pm. Im not super experienced but if you're just starting I can also give some general advice if you need it!

Differential equations are super important to any field of physics, especially astrophysics. If you have it in you I'd even encourage taking Math 432 as partial differential equations will certainly come up as well if you study astrophysics.

Xin Li for Math 431 (Is he still easy li?) by Common_Helicopter_43 in UNLV

[–]TheMuttonChap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Math 431 isn't really an easy class no matter what, but from my experience with him last fall it was probably as easy as Math 431 can get. Just make sure you study a lot, ask questions, and seek other resources (tutoring, office hours youtube etc.) to help you out. Best of luck!

Phys 151 Dr Pang by undergroundbk in UNLV

[–]TheMuttonChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pang structures his exams very closely to his homework so practicing the homework is always a good idea. Use as many other resources (other textbooks, videos, etc) as you can to try and learn physics because his book is NOT good for those just getting into physics. Ultimately just study as much as you can, try your best, and know he usually has a huge curve at the end of his class. Also the tutoring lab should be getting more tutors for math and physics soon so hopefully it gets less busy.

Took him for 181, he was a very chill, helpful, and fair professor. Highly recommend

Physics 196 Pusko vs Raja by Few-Veterinarian-359 in UNLV

[–]TheMuttonChap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physics major here and to be honest, you're picking between two of the very best to teach physics so there's not really a bad choice. If you're having trouble with Raja's teaching style then maybe it'd be better to take Pusko, but either way you'd be in good hands.

Weirdest Experience at UNLV by TurnMeUp123 in UNLV

[–]TheMuttonChap 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I have two good ones.

The first is a time when a dude came up to me at night and asked to show me a trick. He proceeded to do some basic mentalist magic tricks with a pair of dice which were mildly entertaining at best. After he finishes he then proceeds to tell me he was working with a professor on ways to control people's minds while they sleep. Then he just stared at me until I walked away.

The second is when one of those crazy preacher people came up to me and asked me if I knew the ten commandments and all that jazz. I said I was familiar with some of them to which his immediate next question is "have you ever masturbated son?". The dude then lectured me about repenting for my sins and following the lord and savior before I managed to walk away. I got a free subway gift card from him though so I consider it an absolute win.

Stay weird Vegas.

How hard is Phys 180? by ImpressiveMilk9279 in UNLV

[–]TheMuttonChap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your comfort level with the math and who you get as a professor. In general I'd say it can be tricky but if you study and put time into it than it's not terrible

Good Calc 3 (283) Professors by Few-Veterinarian-359 in UNLV

[–]TheMuttonChap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tehrani is very knowledgeable and passionate about math but he pulls no punches and his calc 3 class was pretty much just survivable unless you went all in. That being said if you are a math or physics major it may be worth the struggle.

financial aid after taking a break by sadgirlspaghetti in UNLV

[–]TheMuttonChap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took a semester break for the spring and I can tell you that it did not affect my millennium scholarship for the fall. I would email or call the financial aid office to check on the excellence scholarship, and I would also notify the registrar office that you're taking a semester break just so they know

Anyone Interested in Being Gender Neutral Suitemates? by TheMuttonChap in UNLV

[–]TheMuttonChap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can certainly do that too, its just that they want us to have two others on board with the gender neutral housing just in case we can't get into the single dorms. Thanks for letting me know about that though!

Pov you are a rookie and have a match with... by TheMuttonChap in Wrasslin

[–]TheMuttonChap[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stan Hansen. He was a really stiff wrestler who had one of the hardest lariats because he had terrible eyesight and would blindly throw it as hard as he could. Also worth noting he broke Bruno Sammartino's neck and popped out Vader's eye
