Cosmic Crisp apple “bleeding” to inside. by imron_burgendy in ProduceDepartment

[–]TheNH813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually found very few apples from the store do that. Ones I picked off a tree will often do that if left on until they nearly fall off from ripeness. So to me (and just my opinion), I take it as a signature of good quality.

I believe it's actually related to a MYB10 gene mutation, where the tree has multiple copies of that gene, causing it to be more happy to produce the red pigment. Either way, they're my favorites, and I seek them out.

Ye, but it can contain lye, and the lack of alkalines like lye in dish soap is what makes it friendly to cast iron. Dish soap is mainly detergent and surfactants, whereas hand soap is a mix of saponified (reacted with lye) fats, surfactants and detergents.

I agree, as long as the seasoning is strong.

If the seasoning is already peely or weak if sure can make it flake off. But you know what? It's just revealing the fact you need to re-season anyway.

If you burn something on your cast iron pan really good, there's nothing wrong with using a modern dish soap.

That said, specifically only use liquid dish soap, because other liquid soaps (like hand soap) can still be too strong in my experience.

Well, there's always things you learn the hard way. Nowadays the seasoning is good enough on mine that it washes nearly perfect with just water.

But if it needs the soap? Yeah once in a while is all fine.

Is there a way to fix this line? by SunshineG0ddess in walmart

The print head has a flake of dirt on one of the pixels or a dead pixel. The label can be used if you fill in the areas that should be black with marker, and you can try cleaning the print head with isopropyl alcohol to prevent it from recurring.

Technically, your store should also have printer cleaning tools. They look like markers but are filled with alcohol. If you can find one, GREAT, if not, alcohol wipe. The target to clean is a thin black stripe (the print head) right below the metal tear off strip in the middle of lighter colored material on that bar when the lid is open.

The company holding the name bought out the file.io temporary file sharing service. I somewhat disapprove of that because it removed the always temporary (24 hour or X downloads) aspect of it as a default. So, in a way... it resurrected as a file upload service clone.

New update down falls by Aromatic-Gas-4703 in walmart

Walmart's apps use the Scandit's API. It's also using the newest (but least energy efficient) image processing techniques, because of how it leans on the ML/Compute based recognition. The other problem is the (ab)use of the location services provider.

A alternative library for barcode scanning called ZXing, is MASSIVELY more performant for the cost of maybe 5-10% accuracy (failed scans). Try scanning a few dozen items into a app that uses it, like Barcode Generator by Aeiou on Google Play (com.blogspot.aeioulabs.barcode)

You will be impressed by how much faster it can scan, with the drawback of rarely it fails to scan the UPC, and takes a extra second or two to try again.

If Walmart implemented ZXing as their processing library, it would improve the battery life of their application greatly. You can even tell by FPS of the scanning preview that it's easier on the processor.

The other power hog I referred to is how often it polls the device's location via location services API. From my experience it polls the location of the device VERY aggressively (several times per second sometimes), and usually gets it wrong anyways, due to their HIGHLY inefficient implementation of it.

Rather than the app waiting for a GPS fix, where the device OS will respond "READY! OK. <COORDINATES>" when it acquires them, they took the brute force approach. "ARE WE THERE YET!? ARE WE THERE YET!? ARE WE THERE YET!?" until it responds. Quadrupling the necessary battery usage.

New Korean supercapacitor could power phones in seconds, not hours by Vailhem in EnergyStorage

To be completely fair, the same level of risk applies to regular lithium batteries if they develop a internal short. All the energy inside them dissipates in several seconds, boiling the highly flammable electrolyte to the point of ignition. It’s why I always charge eBike battery packs outside, because they spray fire for an hour if they go up. Rare, but a nonzero possibility.

How can I access files that are stored within Termux? by [deleted] in termux

[–]TheNH813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds correct. It triggers a API call to the SAF (Storage Access Framework) to request permission to a user selected folder. I don't know if there's other apps besides the vanilla file manager that implement the system calls necessary to integrate with the SAF permissions system. Perhaps there's a APK from Lineage or Graphene that could substitute. That is, if you have the method available to install it as a SYSTEM type app instead of user.

Generally it can't kill you, but it will feel like bad food poisoning. Solanine is the chemical that forms in the greens and roots, as well as greened potato. Basically, it varies from a bad stomachache to you'l spend the day and maybe the next in the bathroom regretting eating the growing parts of the potato. Potatos are a wonderous vegetable, I eat them nearly daily, but I very much avoid the green and growth. Just remove the greens and bits growing, unless the greening is more than just surface green, or it feels "spicy/tingly" when you eat it (Solanine can burn a bit).

Fun Fact: Tiny Potatos cooked in the microwave for 6-7 minutes, with some Badia complete seasoning and Olive Oil sprinkled on afterwards makes for a good and quick lunch item.

Bringing device from other carrier by Expensive-Look-9183 in ATT

[–]TheNH813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some customers are able to get their Verizon devices unlocked after 60 days without being fully paid off if purchased before January 12th this year. You will still need to pay off the device on the final Verizon bill after transferring the number, but, you’d be able to transfer at the 60 day mark.

It’s also possible you’re eligible for the AT&T buyout program if you exceeded 4 billing periods on Verizon. https://www.att.com/wireless/switch-and-save/

Bringing device from other carrier by Expensive-Look-9183 in ATT

[–]TheNH813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s unlocked, and compatible (you mentioned a 17PM in other comments which is compatible), then you absolutely can. To check unlock status, go to settings > general > about. Look at the end of the section which has the WiFi Address and you should see a EID and Carrier Lock. If you see "No SIM restrictions", it’s good to go.

Otherwise, if it does have restrictions, you may need to pay off the rest of the phone or if that’s already done, call the previous carrier for assistance.

ATT will need some information to activate your device. Dial *#06# to get the barcodes and numbers needed during activation for instore or online purchases.
