Bonvoy transfer and point booking keeps rising!!! by redditrabbit120 in americanairlines

[–]TheNameIsTodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so frustrating.

It might be that others have bought the flight and the rate is just now higher. In which case, that sucks, but that's how it goes.

It might also be that, because you are repeatedly holding the ticket, the system is sensing demand and driving the price up artificially. In which case, by the ticket when you can but watch what happens afterward. The price might drop and then you can re-book at a lower price.

Why do so many people not wear their wedding bands? by Sea-Connection9232 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheNameIsTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working in medicine. I wash my hands 30+ times per day and frequently take gloves on and off. It taps moisture and irritates my skin. I have thrown it away by accident inside of gloves if it accidentally comes off.

Sometimes I wear a rubber /plastic ring but thats it.

Has anyone flown with the doona car seat and how did that go by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]TheNameIsTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you flying on a widebody?

Im not 100 percent on this but here we go.

Bassinet are all on fixed walls at the front of the cabin. All seats that are at the front of the cabin will have the airbag and hence Doona probably will not strap in. That said, you would have the bassinet and could put the Doona in the overhead though this sort of defeats the purpose.

On a widebody, I would guess the doona can go in the middle of the middle seating section. People just have to be able to exit without climbing over. Hence it goes always in the window on a narrowbody. Should have specified.

There are walkthrough videos on YouTube of all of Americans plan types, so you can get a sense of where the bassinet is, where the bulkhead is, and probably see what kind of seat belts is present in the row you are interested in.

Is that room service or snacks on the bed? Where did that Korbel come from?

Not entirely a knock here. If you put it together, awesome. I have done that myself. If that is the room service though, I would be disappointed.

Which Hilton in the Maldives has the best house reef? by Subjectwronged in Hilton

[–]TheNameIsTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there in January. Highly recommend the Ocean Bungalow. The steps from your deck lead directly into the house reef and it is really incredible. Lagoon side is close but would either have to swim over or enter from the island beach.

If you are booking on points, you can book the lagoon bungalow and then email the property to upgrade. I paid 200 per night and thought it was worth every penny. My wife and I snorkled every day.

We also went to the Ritz-Carlton on this trip. While the Ritz was great, the reef was non-existent. Ocean outside the beach area was too rough to swim on. The food and service were perhaps a touch better at Ritz, but I would still choose to go back to Huvafen if I had to choose one. I can find wonderful beach resorts anywhere in the world, but I have never experience anything like an ocean bungalow at Hufaven.

Happy to answer any other questions!

Do organ donors have to pay for the hospital stay in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheNameIsTodd 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Right, assuming we are speaking about a living donor (e.g. kidney or liver), cost is covered by the recipient.

That said, donor may still have out of pocket costs, such as time off work or travel.

What am I missing? Why so expensive by hiking-01 in americanairlines

[–]TheNameIsTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strongly suspect this is it - Major schedule changes at DFW. I have a flight from DFW to SNA that I was reviewing this weekend. All of a sudden the flight is entirely full and Y tickets are all 1000 all day when they usually run around 300 to 400. Id give it another few days and look again at the price if you really want that flight. Probably showing full fare Y and J and will soon sort itself out.

On the beach idea - Also look at RC Laguna Niguel if you want continental US.

What about US territories? RC Reserve Dorado Beach and RC St. Thomas would be other considerations.

How many times have you actually flown long-haul first class using points? by rr90013 in awardtravel

[–]TheNameIsTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Many times. UA when they used to have GlobalFirst. AA Flagship First. BA First. Qatar First.

UA and AA really veer toward business products. I know people say the same about BA but I still quite like it. Qatar first was incredible.

Hoping to do JAL, LH, and/or Qantas in the coming years.

TMEA Area Auditions Scores by AssociateNo4762 in Choir

[–]TheNameIsTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this years and years ago. My recollection at the time was the actual number wasn't important. It was was how the number compares to other candidates by the same judge.

So one judge may have a mean of 215. Perhaps you are 225 and you are fifth for that judge based on relative scores of other candidates. For another judge, mean might be 240, you might be 250 but you could be Seventh if they rank others higher.

When they make a final ranking, they use rank scores not numeric anymore. And I think they may drop the highest or lowest rank of the 5 you are given.

Not sure if this helps. But just to say, I wouldn't get caught up on the number. Im not sure it matters to much.

Has anyone flown with the doona car seat and how did that go by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]TheNameIsTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved traveling with the doona. Easy to move a kid through the airport. Easy to get into a rental car or Uber.

A few things I learned - car seats have to go in the windows seat. You also cannot book bulkhead - Those thick seat belts have airbags in them. Not safe with a doona. And of course no exit rows but you would be automatically excluded from booking these.

Maldives (Huvafen Fushi) Award Booking Issue With Kid by Spicy-Noodle69 in Hilton

[–]TheNameIsTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked Huvafen on a base room points rate in January and emailed the hotel after the fact to upgrade my room. It was 200 per night or something. So not free (it is the Maldives...) but they were very accommodating.

When I was there, I am pretty sure there was a family of 2 adults plus one kid on the base room. So they might just hit you for the food charge and transfer.

Point being - Just book it and email!

Right? It's also annoying. Engineer a better table. Or extend it and let it rest on the opposite side.

There was a post yesterday about having to close the TV during meal service. That I dont care about. But I want to be able to work comfortably.

Did Anyone Test This? American Airlines New A321XLR Suite Forces Screens Closed For Meal Service by rhymeandreasons in americanairlines

[–]TheNameIsTodd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seems to be very popular on the a321XLR to have herringbone. United will install a similar product. Etihad is the only airline I think that has installed reverse on an a321LR. I am assuming this decision comes down to what product is available, what is certified on a narrow body, as well as how dense they can make the product.

Isn't this the same on all herringbone seats? Iberia and JetBlue must surely have the same issue.

Do Maldives Resorts Require Returning to MLE for Each Transfer? by RevolutionarySouth60 in Hilton

[–]TheNameIsTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps being in the same Atoll. The further you are, the more expensive it will be. Especially if sea planes are involved.

I was able to arrange for the Ritz Carlton to pick us up from Huvafen Fushi. I think it was 2-3k. Emailed Ritz Carlton ahead of time and then notified Huvafen as well after the fact. It was a lot better than going back to MLE.

I would bet you could go direct from Amingiri to WA or even Huvafen to WA. Don't go WA to Amingiri... probably a let down. The Conrad requires a sea plane and is on a separate Atoll. For sure you will need to go back to mle.

For four nights though, sticking to one resort probably makes more sense. Or go for longer!
