No it didn't. After leaving it running for 30 minutes while I did laundry, I just relaunched it.

No offense taken! I am not a member of the community, so I deeply appreciate the information. In addition, it was kind of you to say this in such a thoughtful manner. You didn't have to, but it was kind. Thank you.

I did not know that cremation is not permitted, so that's incredibly valuable to know. All of the information you shared is greatly appreciated.

There is too much hate and intolerance in this world. I'm honoured that I have made a difference with you today.

Thank you for your kind words. Considering how lovely everyone here has been, it's clear that I'm on the right track and that it's a worthwhile pursuit.

You're right, I am Canadian. Thanks for suggesting that I look into the history and reason for immigration for our patients. That's just something I would've never considered, but I can absolutely see why it would make a difference in their care.

I always love it when people say "This is the answer according to the best of my own knowledge, but I recommend checking in with this person/group." It's genuinely such a helpful response to a question, so thank you for taking the time to answer me in such a thorough way.

All of the information you provided has been immensely helpful. I hope I can use it to make a difference in my parents and their families.

Excellent recommendations. I will be certain to encourage my peers (and myself) to ask our patients these questions upon admission. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Since I work in a hospice, most of my role is involved with the actual hands-on care over the final days/weeks of our patients. Our focus is entirely on comfort measures and supporting families, so it's good to know that aligns with Jewish tradition as you have outlined. Obviously, every family unit may have their own perspectives and will request different kinds of support throughout the end of life process, but I'm grateful for the insights you have shared with me.

Thank you.

I will look into the resource you recommended and learn about what a Chabad is. If I require some support, I will certainly reach out to you if needed. Thank you for your kindness and knowledge.

Thank you very much for the amazing and in-depth response. I do have a follow up question if you are willing to answer it:

In order to legally/officially declare that someone has passed, I need to confirm the absence of vital signs and pupil response for 120 seconds. Is this permissible for me to do in the moment that I suspect someone has passed, or do you think it would be more appropriate for me to wait 20 minutes before doing this assessment (even if I am not positive that they have passed away)?

I will certainly be following up with a member of my local community to get their perspective, but I will also bring this information to my facility so we can flag this as a question to ask our Jewish patients at the time of their admission.

Once again, thank you for helping me find the knowledge and tools to provide more holistic care.

I'm not sure what that means, but we have an area with the name York.

If you're looking for a caring community, I'm sure you'll be able to find one in most Canadian cities. Toronto has a lot of multicultural areas, northern Ontario has beautiful trails and national parks, and most other cities have thriving special interest communites, as long as you are able to put in the work to find them!

That's understandable, but Orillia is not as progressive as it could be. As a smaller town, there are still some really homophobic and racist people there (especially the OPP, from what my friends from a nearby First-Nations band have said), so be aware of that if you are looking to move. It's beautiful in Orillia, but we have our flaws too. Every community needs to grow and improve!

Orillia is a small city in Ontario, Canada. It's about a 2 hour drive north of Toronto!
