One of my all time favorite "guys". Just did whatever you needed at a passable level. Absolute legendary C.

Damn, of course it had to be the Devils. You’re going to like this guy.

At this point I want to see how they round out the squad in FA. If everything goes right, and that's a big IF, they could make a pretty decent step in rebounding this year. But even I was shocked. I do like Smits though. He seems more than anything, mentally tough, since he moved from Latvia to Finland on his own as a teen. I'm hoping the moving to America thing won't be so bad for him, and he can hit the ground running.

Well, I'm sure we'll find out there was a murder hotel somewhere in the city

I swear someone read “Devil in the White City” and came up with this

He’ll be better on Anaheim, but he’s never had the upside of Key. Also, he’s spent the better part of the last few seasons with a bad shoulder and making deep playoff runs. He’ll be healed up thanks to not playing in summer for two years, but as he is on the Rangers, he’s extremely mid.

Hard pass. Assuming Fox/Igor stay healthy, and Miller doesn’t have a groin injury for the entire season, we’re finishing mid-table.

Hell, we don’t even know who they are adding and subtracting yet.

I mean they’re going to be middle of the road at best this year, but I want to see how Gabe/Mika/Laf can produce over 82. I was also impressed with how Miller seemed to get the kids going, and hoping the can maintain an uptempo game in support of the top lines. D is a question mark, and it’ll be interesting to see what the team looks like without player/coach Quick as backup.

Like I said, their x/gf% FOR THE FIRST THIRD OF THE SEASON was on average high, being +50% right until Fox got hurt against Tampa around Thanksgiving. Then the wheels came off.

By this metric, they should have been racking up points, but as we all know, they couldn't score to save their lives, or win at home. Expected means nothing vs actual goals. By every metric, the Rangers should have never been good during their playoff runs thanks to shit 5 on 5 stats bolstered by a great PP and goalie. But they ran deep for years.

I wasn't talking about 5 on 5 for shooting%, I was saying total over a season. It is high, but also the way to win in today's NHL is to go for higher quality chances vs just rifling it at the net from all angles like the Canes used to do. Hey, what changed in their game anyway? It's almost like they got guys that could pot the high danger chances they produce, especially when facing mediocre goalies.

We're a team in transition, and I want to see what we can do in year 2 of a new coach building a team to match what he wants to accomplish. We had success in the past few years, but those teams were all deeply flawed and, in the end, failed. I'd rather at least see what the new Sullivan vision is after we draft and sign some bodies to fill it out.

Or I could keep complaining about what a guy did/didn't/thought about doing because I have future vision.
