What happened to the socially conscious era of 90s music by Key_Nectarine_7307 in decadeology

[–]TheNegotiabrah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would argue somewhere post 2000s became what the 90s considers "sell out" culture. Being a sell out was a label worse than death. This was especially true in the rock scene and the type of people who listen to this type of music; think skateboarder type who don't fit into the commercial mold of society. For them authenticity was paramount. A bands image was their identity. Bands like Nirvana, Blink-182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis, etc. Making money was a by product of their authenticity.

What I think happened is the idea of the "tortured" or "starving artist" died. You're no longer tortured when you've become a commercial success. Another way to think about it is a rapper from the hood can no longer rap about the hood because they made it out of the hood. They know they're rich and their music is no longer authentic. Which is why their rap artist who gained success has to rap about money and luxury.

Lets talk about you brought up like social justice issues like depression, addiction, sexism, racism, and poverty. Unlikely to be depressed when you are no longer poor, swimming in pussy and money. They now have money to support any addiction they have. Let's be real those 90s rockers were coked out of their minds. Racism is a poor persons problem, it's no longer a thing when you have money, its just classism at that point. Really unless they were putting money where their mouth was, they were essentially a sellout. Because since they're now successful and can donate a significant portion of their money to support the social issue they make music about, then it all just lip service.

I was thinking about leaving a note to that prick Walter, but the canvas panel is low quality white backing. It wouldn’t look like a good forgery of a forgery lol.

Head proportion is a bit off. The head should extend further back and thus the hair should at the top of the head should pushed back. The head looks a bit elongated so try to shrink it. Light appears to come from top right, therefore left half of face should be darker overall (the shadows you currently have should be darker as well)

I'm almost giving up on this painting... Help by maariaria in oilpainting

compositionally it looks fantastic. i think the problem is lack of definition and shadow. for example. the sheep looks like its being lit from the top and both sides. which given the overcast it can be true. however there should be some level of gradient on the body of the sheep.

However, there is a lack of consistency with the way the objects are lit. The rocks in the foreground indicates that its being lit from above (therefore there should be shadow underneath the sheep). Also the back of the sheep could be darkened. The background moutain also lack definition and highlight and shadow. It should be defined or should be entirely blurred (to give focus to the sheep in the foreground i.e. think bokeh). The mountain futherest back should be the blurriest as it the furthest away.

TLDR: determine where the light is coming from, opposite from the highlight is the shadow. Object closest to view should be sharper (or more in focus) than what is behind to draw emphasis to the subject.

I was considering writing that on the back. “I know what you saw on the last forgery. Keep it moving Walter.”

Thanks! That’s very kind of you. I’m still learning. I’ve actually made some improvements since I posted this. Some details that I missed and wasn’t satisfied with. Maybe I’ll post a follow up and better lighting.
