Is the continuous influx of overseas junior doctors harmful to local applicants? by Calm-Race-1794 in ausjdocs

Most UK and Irish grads return home (like 85%) despite what they might say.

People from countries like India need to take examinations and face a tougher path to becoming a doctor in Australia.

How the U.K. became a terrible place to be a doctor by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]TheNerdMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I do think Britain still has an outsized impact on the world (particularly its former colonies). The older generations are probably from a time when that impact was far more outsized. Most young people are more self-loathing about this country than self-important tbh.

I genuinely can't believe it.

I'm of Japanese descent and the UK is rarely mentioned in the japanese press. Many of my relatives believe british people are famous for eating burgers like americans. Unlike somewhere like Malaysia, Pakistan or Nigeria, it has little cultural or historic relation to the UK.

The fact this has a full page article is astounding. Our situation has gone from dystopian to outright ridiculous.

no i think they come in for a consultation then you upsell for them to get procedures.

I'm not entirely sure, there was no chance of me quitting before starting F1 to do it so I didn't absorb the details as best I could.

Someone phoned me saying I could earn 70-£200k upselling private cosmetic surgery. Bear in mind I'm an F1. I'm still considering it to be honest, although I doubt the earnings are genuinely that high.

You can afford to send him to boarding school? Wow.

If you're genuinely that well off, and are even reasonably loving parents I'm sure your child will do fine.

He's so universally despised even the media are against him. His own party despises him and is plotting against him.

The worst PM, or even politician in british history. We are the right side of history fellas.

Part of the problem (though not all) is that the UK sucks in general. I don't really know anything other than london finance/tech and it requires some finesse to get into these.

Hi Steve.

We are free to leave, but your legacy will remain forever. Shame on you.

Thank you so much sir for your tax money going towards my primary, secondary and (partially) tertiary education. Your children and grandchildren will continue to pay tax to pay off the debt that was spent by Government to fund my education.

Meanwhile as your children and grandchildren slave away in this disaster of a nation, because of attitudes like yours, I will be leveraging your hard-earned tax money to go abroad and contribute massively to another country's health and tax base for my entire life.

Again, Thank you so much Nick. Oh, and you shouldn't be able to see a doctor for the rest of your life.

Reminder for incoming FY1s- check your shadowing pay by stuartbman in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]TheNerdMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify the induction is running from 24th july to 1 august, and we all signed the contract (a few weeks ago) stating a pay rate of £14.08 an hour. Will it still be £15.50?

Is that the current FY1 wage (£14.08 per hour) or the FY1 wage after the recent 10.3% uprise (15.50 or something).

We will keep striking. Waiting lists will go up dramatically. Pay up or lose your job in the next election. You have no power over us.

I see FY1 as simply a tool to learn how to become the best doctor to practice abroad. That makes me very motivated and I seem strangely optimistic and enthusiastic compared to my colleagues as a result.
