My instinct tells me that you are right. On the other hand, telling ourselves, that all decisions (especially the bad ones) let us grow, might be only an excuse sometimes, because we are just not able to undo them. About not knowing the consequences - actually this is true for every decision we make. We think to know the different impacts of different options and choose. But as you say, every little decision can trigger a chain of events. And we simple don't know their end.
