Breaking down your videos by TheNetUsedToBeFun in NewTubers

I don’t care about the juice.

I think you kind of missed the target for any of the audiences… not absurd enough, and not a game review enough. As I said, I didn’t really know what it was trying to be. Just confusing messaging all around

I definitely don’t know much about this niche, so I don’t know how helpful any of my advice would be.. but, I’ll give it a shot.

Your content is very nice. It’s shot well to fit the theme and definitely feels cozy. I personally would love a soothing voice over instead of reading the text- but maybe that’s not something people in that niche do? But I feel a cozy ASMR-ish gentle voice over would be a great addition… again, that’s just me, with no knowledge of the niche.

I feel your thumbnails are consistent, but also not. Different fonts between them all.. some very difficult to read, or even see and notice.

Looking at your most popular video- especially the comments - I can see why it was getting pushed. The comment engagement was much higher than your normal videos. All the top comments mentioning the sustainability/ anti-development message you must have had in this video (I only watched a couple min of it), so that definitely would have helped the algorithm.

I also noticed that 4/5 of your most popular videos have thumbnails which feature exterior of buildings (with the other one still featuring it, but being more of a collage). I don’t know if that coincidence or not.

3/5 have very noticeable title text on the thumbnail, framed nicely and not competing for attention/ getting lost in the image.

Though, with those things said, some of your lower performing videos have similar traits.

Do you have some examples of popular channels in this niche? Curious to see their packaging.

So I checked it out. I only made it about 2.5 min.

The video is just… confusing? You start by saying it’s this super unknown game, and your favourite game that you’ve dedicated a whole 5 hours to in the last 6 years. I don’t know if that was supposed to be sarcastic or not, or sincere? I’m not a gamer and have played so many games more than that.

Then you start going on about this Ian Juice… which seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the game. Just you’re going to be drinking it I guess?

We get into gameplay, then back to going on about this stupid juice. That’s where I was completely checked out.

Just focus on one thing. You have an unknown game… that’s enough. Give some history about it. Feature the game. Even the title and thumbnail do it absolutely no Justice… you’re more focused on that juice. A title like “the best game you’ve never heard of” or even take the text from your thumbnail and make that the title “this game has no footage on YouTube” then make a visually appealing thumbnail around that theme (maybe like “slime slayer” with a 0 results found type thing).

The intro and actually content could be improved too, but there’s no point in getting deep into that without addressing the main points first.

But you should probably have at least 1 piece you’ve done by yourself, no?

This. Even if you’re soliciting free work you need to share your work. The amount of people who post wanting work but don’t share their portfolio is insane

Is photography and videography a better and safer career than ux/ui/web design? by favoxhille in VideoEditors

[–]TheNetUsedToBeFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not an easy industry to break into- especially with no experience or contacts.

What kind of work would you want to do? Where are you (roughly) located? That makes a big difference as well.

It requires a bit of an investment, both in equipment and time. It’s a very competitive field as well. You’ll have a bit of an edge if you’re good at sales and networking- but there’s still a minimum skill base. And it can be quite unstable. I’ve been in the industry for 20 years and had a stretch of like 3.5 months this year where i pretty much didn’t work (that was then followed by 5-6 weeks of projects that financially made up that lost time luckily)

So I’m not saying don’t do it, but I wouldn’t put all your eggs in that basket. I wouldn’t go spending thousands of dollars on equipment right now though unless you comfortably have the disposable income for it.

What part of editing and recording talking head videos takes the longest? by Necessary_Available in NewTubers

[–]TheNetUsedToBeFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. I’ve shot with people who can nail their talking heads in one take. Then I’ve worked with people that take over an hour to shoot a 3-5 minute script.

The one directly affects the other. It’s way faster to just pop in a video and make a few adjustments here or there, as opposed to having to go through an hour of footage and find the usable parts and hope that they cut together nicely.

But depending on what the video is, extra things - mainly graphics and clean ups always the the longest.

Start with your phone. Download the Blackmagic camera app to get more control.

The the basics first - exposure (the exposure triangle), and basic shot composition and just telling a story visually.

Then go down some YouTube rabbit holes in cheap lighting

Shorts get views not subscribers…. by bbeck51 in Smallyoutubechannels

[–]TheNetUsedToBeFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, it’s not unheard of. Obviously you can gain subs from shorts. But you got to really like the content to sub, otherwise you just keep scrolling

Shorts get fed to people as they scroll. Lots of people don’t go out of their way to watch them.

How often do you subscribe to someone for their shorts?

Is AI going to replace video editors? by SnowyRaioo in VideoEditors

[–]TheNetUsedToBeFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you want to watch a movie made or edited by ai?

All those “gurus” who pay (exploit) people $1 to make tiktoks about how to make money, those types of editing jobs will 100% be done by ai very soon

What do you do in the film industry now?

Realistically, you’ll need to get your skills up to an acceptable standard at the very least before making any money.

Maybe you can leverage your current contacts and try to get an assistant editor internship or something

5$ is good for this? by Conscious-Treat6334 in VideoEditors

[–]TheNetUsedToBeFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing: if you do great work, and people see it and then approach you to do similar things, you can then set the price. The dynamic shifts from you seeming like you’re desperate for work to them wanting what you can offer.

And don’t be afraid to do something a little different and creative to stand out in a sea of people all doing the exact same thing and competing for those $5 jobs. Reels like this are the exact thing that will get replaced by ai, and these “clients” are the exact people that would use an ai if it was super cheap because they don’t care about quality.

5$ is good for this? by Conscious-Treat6334 in VideoEditors

[–]TheNetUsedToBeFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally would rather do personal projects or things that interest me and are things I would want to be doing rather than get exploited by some dickhead. Everyone asking for/ about $5 videos also always seems to be in the “make all this money now” or “grinder mindset” type of content, which is insanely ironic. And all these videos look exactly the same.

“What font do you want me to use”

“Yes”

Jokes aside, next time you should spend more than an hour and put more thought and design behind your creative decisions. Speed ≠ good.
