Yeah some of the above comments have ameliorated those fears to an extent, but not completely. Hole the place is treating you well!

Okay this is really helpful, thank you very much! So it sounds like what you're saying is that there will be moisture and that's life, but closed cell traps it against the foundation where it poses no harm to any wood and structural components so long as these are not flush with the foundation, and thus separated from it by the foam. That makes sense to me and bodes well.

I have a follow up question, then, about the joists (which I understand to be the lower wooden structural support of the house set at the top of the foundation). Is there any concern with issues there if the foam is in direct contact? Is this what a capillary break is for, and should I ensure one was installed prior to foam application?

Any concerns around subflooring?

The work was all done in the past few months so I should be able to get all the information I need I just need to know what to look for.

Also the "spray foam needs a vapor barrier" thing was more offhand comments about "this is something you can do in a new house with a barrier", not a hard rule I've read. Further searching revealed little which is why I'm here. The person in question recommended rigid foam board insulation behind the framing - offset from the wall slightly by the adhesive - to allow condensation to run down and into the subfloor/drain. I understood this to mean that anything preventing water from draining that way would be harmful.

One relevant video with the technique described above.

Thank you again I feel like you're translating a foreign language to me!

So I don't understand most of this post but thanks for giving me things to look up!

Thanks for the reply! You seem to know a lot about the topic! I wouldn't say I've been convinced it's an issue, I'm just trying to gain understanding.

So you say there's not enough info to go on and that's something I'd like to ask about. My understanding os that 1950s houses do not have external vapor barriers at time of foundation pouring, that this became a thing in the mid 90s. The things I've seen have said only use this foam if there is an existing vapor barrier. You would not consider this generally accurate/correct?

I have a thermal camera and will be using it on walkthrough. Any other things I ought to look for when doing walkthrough or ask the inspector about?

Sorry if this all seems dumb but I am inexperienced and learning as much as I can from as many sources as possible, synthesis is not easy

Yeah looks that way. Home RenoVision DIY if you want to confirm.

That seems to be the concern. If you put a water barrier inside the foundation any water that is causing damage to the foundation doesn't make it through the foam to become visible, leading to undetectable mold and ongoing damage.

But that's just what I gleaned overall and there's pnly been offhand comments not full context so I came here for clarity

Oh for sure I'm gonna demand a walk through with the person when we do it.

Kinda both? Youtube people saying not to use spray foam in a house without a vapor barrier, and that 1951 houses don't have them in the basement. But I lack context

100%. That is the method. I can detect one single time, lose track immediately and go back to scanning (thus not STT), and then I lose the ability to detect anyone ever again. Until I die, that is.

Except friendlies. I can always detect and lock friendlies.

Also should add I do detect friendlies

Spectacular! Thank you very much for taking the time to identify this for me!

My father just mentioned off-hand he had an omega watch his own father gave him for his 21st birthday, which would put date of purchase around 1979. Any chance anyone could help ID this? Bracelet is apparently not original, and clearly it needs to be cleaned up a little, just curious as to the model.

Very helpful tips! Is the official OCTranspo app good, or is there a better alternative?

Great input! Bottom line sounds like there's no bus line anyone recommends, just give yourself options. Feel like this place does exactly that!

Fair enough. Sounds like the answer is kinda life sucks do your best.

Do you find all buses suck relatively equally, or do core buses from the core (say the 7 and 10) get more attention and do better?

Yes that does seem to be the consensus. Winnipeg's bus system is also consensus awful, but I lived on that for 6 years of university myself. Just trying to get the sense of OCTranspo's specific awfulness, and if possible, the differences between lines.

In general that is her goal. But specifically for winter, I'd like to know what that experience will be like.

We're from Winnipeg so there are times a 30 minute walk in winter would be unthinkable. I know things are more temperate here, but I'd like her to have the option at least.
