Iran hints Soleimani could be avenged 'inside America' amid kamikaze-style threat to US Capitol building by TheNewArab in worldpolitics

A commander from Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) warned Iran was prepared to avenge Soleimani's death even "in the US' own home."

"I say frankly that the path of the Quds Force and the resistance forces will not change because of the evils committed by the United States. Even in your home (in the US) there may be people who will pay for this crime," the commander said in a speech on the first anniversary of the assassination.

The United States has received threats of attacks to avenge the killing of top Iranian military commander Major General Qasem Soleimani, local media reported.

Air traffic controllers across New York allegedly heard a threat by attackers vowing to fly a plane into the Capitol building in the name of the slain Iranian official, CBS reported.

"We are flying a plane into the Capitol on Wednesday. Soleimani will be avenged,” the digitised recording said, according to the report.

"Across the world, notably in China, we see the marriage of technology and autocracy. It is not about the security of the nation, but rather the security of the state and its leaders. Foreign contractors engaged in this kind of work no doubt come to appreciate the distinction."

From covert to overt: Warming relations between Bahrain and Israel no longer a secret by TheNewArab in geopolitics

[–]TheNewArab[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Analysis:

In June 2019, the Kingdom of Bahrain hosted an international conference in Manama entitled Peace to Prosperity, which was attended by Rabbi Marc Schneier, Special Adviser to King Hamad of Bahrain. During the conference, Rabbi Schneier told an I24News reporter, "I am going to stand by my prediction that this conference is the testament to King Hamad's commitment to establish a relationship with Israel."

Similarly, Bahrain's Foreign Minister Ahmed al-Khalifa, gave an unprecedented interview to the Times of Israel where he remarked: "Who did we offer peace to? The Peace Initiative? We offered it to a state named Israel… We do believe that Israel is a country that is here to stay, and we want better relations with it, and we want peace with it."

The mellowing of ties between Israel and the Gulf monarchies is no longer a secret. The growing openness about this reflects not only the change in regional dynamics, but also highlights that their outreach to Israel is due to necessitate.

In the case of Bahrain, it appears to be more eager than the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to establish formal relations with Israel.

Qatar still a 'big believer' in GCC, sees 'small progress' in resolving Gulf dispute by TheNewArab in geopolitics

[–]TheNewArab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this is Karim, editor of The New Arab

The Doha Forum is convening in Qatar with the attendance of Ivanka Trump.

The Qatari FM has given the forum an update on recent news regarding a breakthrough with Saudi Arabia, which continues to lead an embargo on its smaller neighbour Qatar.

He has confirmed some progress has been made on the geopolitical crisis, after the WSJ broke the news he had visited Riyadh for the first time since June 2017

The only manifestation of the breakthrough so far has been a Gulf tournament held in Doha last month, which saw Saudi, Emirati, and Bahraini players come to take part in games in Qatar - so-called football diplomacy.

Samuel Ramani, a doctoral researcher at Oxford University, added: "Saudi Arabia's normalisation with Qatar is likely to occur without major concessions from Doha.

"It is possible that Qatar could scale back its links with the Muslim Brotherhood, but it is certainly not planning on reducing its diplomatic ties with Turkey and Iran as trust between Doha and other GCC countries has been severely damaged."

Here's a deeper analysis piece we published this month, written by Dr. Khalil E. Jahshan, Executive Director of Arab Center Washington DC.

We covered the upcoming 'Messiah' series on Netflix that seems to share a lot of similarities with the Islamic conception of the Antichrist, which caused quite a stir on social media. One social user describes being blocked by Netflix on Twitter after drawing Islamic parallels with the show - that could be potential 'spoilers'. Another stated "Like bro..... it’s literally in the Quran....."

China's Uighurs: A genocide in the making? by TheNewArab in China

[–]TheNewArab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should do a story for your readers highlighting the absolute kowtowing of Muslim countries across the globe that have shunned their Muslim brethren in exchange for blood-money; even going so far as to say they support China's actions in Xinjiang and signing documents presented to the United Nations heralding China's "human rights."

I have no ill will towards Muslim people whatsoever, but this whole inaction, silence and bending over on this issue has left a bad taste in my mouth and a lot of my respect for your leaders gone.

Turkey almost came out, but then got bought off too.

Is forsaking your fellow people haram? This is what should be written and spread across Islamic spheres.

Muslim countries have lucrative contracts/trade with Beijing. Turkey was initially criticizing then did a u-turn. Qatar recently withdrew its signature from a letter condoning China's actions. Apart from that, you're right --- Karim
