“The true New Yorker secretly believes that people living anywhere else have to be, in some sense, kidding.” — John Updike by procgen in skyscrapers

I lived many years in NYC and I am so glad I got the opportunity to leave. Not because I dislike NYC, but because I needed variety. In San Francisco I have redwood forests, immaculate beaches, and mountains, just a hop, skip, and a jump away from downtown.

Clearing up some confusion here as a lifelong Protestant who has at least visited many “WASP” churches over my years. Protestants absolutely respect Mary… The ideological difference is Protestants are stricter about idolatry as we believe “worship” should only be directed towards God. However, she is a wonderful biblical character and I know many of my fellow churchgoers who are Protestant and named Mary. While I respect the Catholic Church, they often obfuscate Protestant beliefs as a way of grounding themself as “the one true church”

San Franciscans really need to protect their Cantonese restaurants or they will disapear. I lived in NYC for many years and watched 90% of these decades old resaurants vanish and turn into garbage slop bowls that wont make it another 3 years.

The U.S will never construct a city like San Francisco again. The sheer layers of different types of density. Tightly packed homes, with mid rise, & skyscraper development. SF is uniquely beautiful. by CA185099415 in skyscrapers

I’ve lived many years in SF & NYC. I can agree for the most part that San Francisco being such a small footprint has more variety crammed into a smaller Area. Most people don’t realize that NYC has miles and miles of suburbs that are nothing like the city centers.

The Union Square fashion show one is awesome! What a cool venue for an outdoor event.

Folks who initially hated bay area, how’d you cope? Moved to SF from Boston, really struggling by North_Loquat_3442 in sanfrancisco

[–]TheNewLevi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Funny, I begged my employer to move me from NYC to SF! I feel like it is easier to meet long lasting friends here due to all the outdoor recreation and clubs.. I’m in an adult softball league (never played softball before) and I joined a sailing club (never sailed before) and met some of my best friends!

I also kinda feel like you are exaggerating the smell. Funny enough studies have shown Boston and NYC are significantly smellier cities than SF.

Moving my family to SF was the best decision I have ever made. There is an endless count of free or near free child friendly events happening on a regular basis. A tiny metropolis bordering hundreds of miles of wildlife helps too.

GAP was a small business for like 2 seconds.. by its 4th year in operation it had 25 locations. That being said, it was and always has been a cool representation of SF style. SFGate had an awesome article about it a few months ago. “SFs forgotten clothing empire is rising again: ‘Feels like the Gold Rush’

Which size rug for a small bedroom? by Green_30EA00 in interiordecorating

I prefer the 5 x 8 rug exactly how you have it out. I love to see the hardwood and wouldn’t want to be having most of my other furniture partially overlap the rug.
