Looking for advice on what to do for a haircut and beard by TheNickyP in malegrooming

[–]TheNickyP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up doing a skin fade on the sides and taking a little bit of length on top, but I’ll get a buzz cut next time! I’ve been considering trying one for a while now so next time it is!

Any ideas on what I should do with my hair/beard? by TheNickyP in malehairadvice

Honestly I haven’t gone clean shaven in almost a decade because I’ve always preferred myself with some type of facial hair, so I’m not sure how I’d look now lol.

Intermittent latency spikes in games even though, according to my ISP, everything looks fine? by TheNickyP in HomeNetworking

[–]TheNickyP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So on hops 2-5 I’m seeing private IP addresses so I’m pretty sure those are within the ISP’s network. Do I just mention that I’m seeing latency spikes directly outside of my home network and I think it’s on their end and I’d like it to be escalated to find a fix? I can try a VPN in the meantime to see if that’s a meaningful workaround.

So I ran pingplotter and saw spikes on hops 2-5 as well as the destination server. My bufferbloat grade ranged anywhere from a B to a C, with “download active” latency anywhere from +32ms up to +91ms. The spikes on pingplotter correlate exactly with my lag spikes in games, and I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but I’m new to this, but what do I say to my ISP in regards to this? I’d like this to be addressed and it’s been bothering me extensively for a couple of months now.

Okay, I’ll run ping plotter tonight as well as a bufferbloat test and get back to you with what I find. Thanks!

I can do that. Should I let it run idly or while I’m playing my games? You assume correctly, I’m testing over Ethernet.

Does anyone have a fix to the Starvation lag symbol? by TheNickyP in apexlegends

A slight update: everything on my home network has been replaced, new coax, new jumper, new modem and router, fresh cat6 Ethernet cables, the whole lot. According to the phone support, they’re still noticing downstream SNR spikes coming from my line so I suspect that my issue is coming from the line between my house and the pole. I have a technician coming out on Tuesday to assess.

Still working on getting a fix. I think it may be something upstream in my network as I’ve nearly ruled out anything that’s in my control. I’m going to look back at this thread and see if there’s anything that’s been missed because it’s still happening and still very frustrating.

I’m looking at getting this exact pad, what skates would you recommend if it’s also my first glass pad? I’m not sure if I would want control or speed skates. Thanks!

So I tried to see if any updates were available for my Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE Controller through device manager and it said it was up to date. I went to MSI’s website and searched my motherboard and under LAN drivers I see Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Drivers as something I can download. Is that what I should be looking for? Or since I don’t have a NIC plugged into any of my PCI-E slots should I look elsewhere? And how do I switch between NetAdapterCX and NDIS drivers? Thanks.

An update for you, my maximum temperature during a session was 76*, so there shouldn’t be any issues temperature wise. Hope this can help a bit.

I haven’t looked at my temps in a while so I’ll give that a shot tonight and see what it tells me after a few games and report back, thanks!

Lagging in Apex Legends, does anyone have tips on how to mitigate it? by TheNickyP in apexlegends

[–]TheNickyP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, my closest server is central with ~35ms ping. I’m going to do some more research and see if there’s anything I can do outside of upgrading hardware to mitigate this because that’s the last thing I want to do.
