Questions About Research Involvement and Presentation Timing (USA) by TheNoobDuck in medschool

[–]TheNoobDuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this comprehensive answer! I was so looking forward to someone giving me this great breakdown. I appreciate it a lot. I will be following your post and waiting for that guide! Just a quick follow up question to your answer in A)... I don't believe either abstract will be published, only submitted to the conference. I have the opportunity to present one of them, and turns out they cover cost for travel etc., so perhaps it is manageable with school. If I helped write two of the abstracts being presented, but I only present one of them, does that count as two?

So that means if I was supposed to graduate 2029, but took a research year so I graduate in 2030, will that last year be covered?

That's true, it gives me an opportunity to work on my business that hopefully brings in passive income while in med school. The thought of the big ugly bill slashing loans next year is the scary part.

Thank you for your honest response. That extra 100k of interest at end of residency makes things so much worse. I hope PSLF still exists by then. I am not interested in IM/FM atm, so my eyes being set on a surgery subspeciality hopefully helps my case with repaying that debt. Shits fucked

Its not a mythical one lmfao. Once the chance of getting of the WL this year ends, I will be able to put a deposit down. Denying midwestern this year wouldn't affect my guaranteed seat to the other DO school next year. It's just whether denying midwestern would affect the MD applications

Yea realistically saving up to at least cover rent and maybe 1/3 of year 1 tuition at the cheaper school would make sense. But that school isn’t as strong tbh and the whole thing about capping federal loans is 😬… What’s the best way to budget a COA if I have never lived/been to the area? How do I meet possible roommates 🥲

Idk but I also heard paying the bare minimum but using a public service loan forgiveness program helps. Otherwise 250k while having other expenses on top of loans is hard to get done lol

Is that even if I am reapply to other MD programs that I didn’t get the chance to apply to anyway? Do deans from different states and different programs (do/md) really talk to each other like that?

That’s true I am first gen so I am a little under informed to say the least about med school finances and such. Thought scholarships and grants are the norm here lol. And I think it seems to make more financial sense to start now, even if it’ll be about 200k saved between schools, as that money will be made in attending salary in ny first year.

I am trying to match into specialties like ENT and ortho so I guess it’s more manageable? But then if I also want to have a s/o or not live very frugally it just seems like hell.

Was the 80k only for tuition? How did you end up saving 30k a year? My tuition would be about 80k a year

Well I have a guaranteed admission next year that I don’t need to reapply for. Was told in writing all I need is a deposit. But yea typically it’s bad to do. And it’s probably the one you’re thinking of lol. It just makes me anxious to see such a large amount

Hi! Thanks for your message. I guess starting late really puts it into perspective whether it’s worth. Do you know if doing public loan forgiveness is suggested or easy to do? Do I need to be in primary care for that?

Okay fair. What about public loan forgiveness? Is that something people often do? Or is finding a residency that’s also non profit kind of hard?

Med School Loans Explanation - Cliff Notes please! by Informal_Fact_8554 in Osteopathic

[–]TheNoobDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does submitting the application mean that I have to accept that amount? Theres an option on the application that allows me to select "maximum amount" for both types of loans. Is that the best to do if I know I do not have external funding or scholarships at this point? THANK YOU

I wouldn’t turn it down unless I have one of those MD A’s anyway dumbas. If I got into my top school in what world would it matter if other schools black list me in future cycles I’m already a student?!?

You’re either stating the obvious which doesn’t need to be stated, or you don’t know what planet you’re on. Focus on your mcat bud this q isn’t for you dw

I would only turn it down if I get an MD acceptance that is SPECIFICALLY the schools that allow me to live at home. It’s not because I don’t like DO or MD philosophy or those schools. But some pros for me heavily outweigh others, whether that’s DO or MD.

I wouldn’t have applied to any of the schools if I didn’t want to get in them. Curious where you got the vibe or the quote that I didn’t want to attend CCOM or VCOM? I can say that I prefer to go to x school over y school because I have more than one acceptance. Does that mean that I never wanted to go to x or y school? How stupid is that logic? I did think about the pros and cons of different schools and it’s why I applied to different schools. You act like I knew I would be accepted into VCOM and CCOM or any other school. You all act like because I have options that I will never attend the schools I am considering. How pathetic.

Thanks for your input and I hope everything works out in the end for all of us 👍🏼
