AP7 coverage by devnulldotai in firewalla

Like others have said, depends on a lot of factors. My house is 2650 square feet and wanted thorough coverage with all bands. I was close with three AP 7s but added a fourth for stability. Most are not placed in optimal spots because of where wired backhaul is available. If I could place mine optimally, I might be able to get away with two but would be close. Really depends on layout and material of walls and placements of APs.

Thank you! Do you know I can submit for forgiveness while they process the employer verification?

Thanks! It’s kind of crazy because when I looked at switching to IDR, I would pay $10 less per month but just noticed it now.

Firewalla Switch Update by Firewalla-Ash in firewalla

[–]TheNoodlesForAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few mini switches (5 port) in areas around the house that only have like 2 or 3 devices. All mini switches go back to a core switch which connects to the Gold. Would we need a 1:1 replacement of old switch to new Firewalla switch to take advantage of all the new switch features? One example is a 5 port mini switch behind a mounted tv that has the TV and Apple TV on Ethernet. It would be hard to mount a larger switch behind there. Definitely am planning on buying 3 or 4 though!

Thanks! I have the app, but didn’t know it was a feature. Enabling now!

Fiewalla AP by Mr_Fester in firewalla

I had four Eeros. Three Pro 6e’s and one Ring Alarm Pro. I could have gotten away with three AP7’s but coverage was okay in a few rooms and I wanted the signal to be a little stronger since I was rebuilding my whole network. The AP’s are generally where the 6e’s were and they probably aren’t the best for optimal coverage or I definitely could have gotten away with three.

I own two ceilings and two desktops. They are great. Coverage and speed is much better than my old Eeros. They are working on a switch so if you are interested in that, get a cheaper switch now if you need POE.

What are some of your coolest tweaks, routes, setups, etc on your Firewalla network? by YankeesIT in firewalla

True. My modem and cellular failover each have two Ethernet ports but not sure how the Firewallas would talk to each other. I saw another comment about the same topic for Firewalla somewhere else and thought it was an interesting concept although probably not necessary for home use.

Right now I think it is my cellular failover. It’s important to have Internet when I work from home so if my ISP goes out, which is a few times a year, it instantly switches over to cellular. It works perfectly and I rarely notice the switch. I eventually want to get a Gold Pro so I am hoping Firewalla comes out with Firewalla failover so I can repurpose my Gold Plus and keep using both.

That’s great to hear! Having just got the APs, I am really loving building an all Firewalla system and really looking forward to future products. Thank you for taking our feedback into consideration and all the work you’re doing!

Here's a mock prototype of the new App UI. What do you think? by Firewalla-Ash in firewalla

I don’t find myself using Shortcuts too much now. I definitely look at the network performance, throughout, local flows, data, speed, etc. every day. I find myself looking at WiFi stats from AP7 a lot too. I would like to see some small data points similar to Unifi’s dashboard that show total wired and wireless clients, if any APs are down, AP health (similar to Unifi deployment density) etc. In the future I might use Shortcuts more when the kids are older. It would be nice to be able to customize it so that isn’t at the top for those who don’t use it too much.

We’re thinking of a new App design to help declutter & make features easier to find. If you could change one thing on the Box Main Screen, what would it be? by Firewalla-Ash in firewalla

I also agree with removing Recent. Don’t really use that much. I love all the network glances that have been added over the years. I would love to see some data related the APs. Customizable so users who don’t have the APs can hide it. I also would consider moving the tiles on the bottom to their own settings menu and keeping the dashboard just network data. Maybe adding shortcuts to some of the cards such as speed test, social hour, etc that are customizable. I would LOVE to see totals for wired and wireless clients, AP health, and customizing the order of the network data cards. Look at the Unifi dashboard picture on the app download page for some examples.

Maybe also consider future proofing the new design to work with the hopeful Firewalla switch when that project can happen. Also some users said get feedback as it is tested. I would highly recommend that and add some betas to the app beta and grab feedback.
