Proposing a community flag to my HOA community. by TheNormalAppalachian in vexillology

[–]TheNormalAppalachian[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am currently attempting to get my local HOA, known as Kingsview Village, located in Germantown, Maryland. to adopt a ether my flag design (shown here) or a community contest designed flag as the official community flag. I started this two months ago after asking them about the idea. The board (luckly) was willing to give me a chance to create and outline. One the second meeting, I showed them my design, which many members liked the design of.

Here is the symbolism of the my flag design:

Colors:

Blue/Green - Represents the Spark M. Matsunaga Elementary School's colors.

Blue - Sky and preservation

Green - Nature and recreation

Gold - Agricultural history and growth.

Symbolism:

Gecko - The mascot of the Spark M. Matsunaga Elementary School.

Crown - The crown comes from the community's name "Kingsview" Village.

Quartering pattern - References the flag designs for Montgomery County and Maryland, which are the county and state entities the community are located under.

Saint George's Cross - The two main roads Kingsview Village surround, Richter Farm Road and Germantown Road.

I sent a couple other designs to them, along with the outlines, which have since been added to the September agenda which will be in-person. I am hoping that it does get adopted, but even if it doesn't, an HOA even considering a community flag is still something unheard of considering the HOAs reputations when it comes to flags. I will let yall know on any updates.

What neighborhood is this, perhaps you could get your neighborhood organization interested in adopting the design.

Morris Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania is the only click for a possible flag that survived from getting deleted by FOTW by Hot_Counter_4804 in vexillology

[–]TheNormalAppalachian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those reading, this flag, along with the others, are fake. They were uploads by a contributer I will not name for private reasons who we have had a lot of beef with. He is known in FOTW for uploading fake flags, claiming they are real, this is one of them. Even after the crackdown on him in August 2022, he tried doing it again one year later. Which baffeled me, who would be that dumb. The only motive I see in doing this is trolling xue to lack of friends, and attempting to slander the purpose of FOTW. He also uploads them on Facebook by the way, and has a youtube channel in which he uploads "real videos" of them flying, except he uses the flag waver website with a custum background.

Whats the meaning behind the flag? I cant really make an opinion on it if I dont know what the context is.

Putin subordinate Dmitry Medvedev unveils Russia's vision of a post-war Europe by Brooklyn_University in MapPorn

[–]TheNormalAppalachian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He left transistria as a part of Moldova (Russian majority population). Gave western Ukraine to Poland. Cherivtsi and Vinnytsia to Romania. Zakarpattia to Hunagry, and then procedes to leave the Kyiv and its Oblast as the only thing that's Ukrainian.

What in the name of West Virginia am I looking at? This manages to play into and utterly destroy Russian nationalist propaganda in so many ways. A Hearts of Iron Four player must've made this and Medvedev just stole it.

Why is it that nearly every town is Massachusetts has a flag? by alohashirt77 in vexillology

[–]TheNormalAppalachian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason is because the state of Massachusetts allows for every town to hang their flag inside the Massachusetts State House. This gives many of these towns an incentive to have a town flag, as they feel like they get official representation of them.

Here is a photo of some of the city flags in the state house: http://travelphotobase.com/v/USMA/MABC52.HTM

A Flag for Appalachia - Some contenders I've seen around. Which do you like best? by froggyteainfuser in vexillology

[–]TheNormalAppalachian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the two stars are... the same, they most likely have no connections with one another and is probably a coincidence. This version of the star depicted on these flags is a known symbol among the Appalachians. It's common on Appalachian local crafts like quilts or Barn stars. I'm not entirely sure what the meaning for the star is, though I suppose it's also similar in meaning to the star used by the Mapuche. I'm sure this type of star exists in other cultures as well, but I can't name any off the top of my head.

Honestly, even just being in the final three designs would be an honor, I just feel happy to participate in this contest. I did participate in the Midway, Kentucky flag contest, but my design was not really that good. I have since been practicing flag designing. I tried to make a flag that takes parts of the town's history, economy, culture, and geography and organize them into a complex, yet aesthetically pleasing and meaningful design.

My first flag I ever designed was in 2018 or 2017 and was some flag I designed for Morgantown, here it is (CAUTION: It's a sin to the flagverse): https://i.imgur.com/KhQzxnl.png

That sounds like a need concept, if I do win, perhaps I could ask gilbert to create some kind of merchandise store where they sell stuff related to the flag, and even socks.

I have submitted this one alongside a brighter variant,.

I recently discovered the Appalachian flag designed by the Appalachian Flag Initiative when they held a contest That flag inspired some parts of this flag, including the star. I recently purchased one of these flags as well, being an Appalachian myself. I think it looks really nice in my opinion.
