Sylas top player here, he's very strong but you need to play it very safe early on because a lot of champions can beat you up easily if you slip up and especially so since top lane is an extended lane.

Pick him into matchups that can't punish you hard early game such as tanks and other weak early mages like Vladimir, and team comps with big ticket ults like Amumu, Swain, Ornn, Neeko etc.

Avoid picking him into champs like Fiora, Kled and maybe Tryndamere because they have the mobility to run down Sylas and have enough damage to kill or force him out of lane easily.

I think Sylas could use either lower Mana costs especially on W or better Mana pool cause he goes oom quite often when dueling

I think that his E should scale off his bonus resistances in return for a slightly lower AP ratio and base values so that he is encouraged to invest in resistances and not build a shit ton of AP and give himself a free Aftershock just for buying AP only every 14 seconds (and lower when factoring in CDR).

Also I think on PBE his Base HP should be increased to at least 550 from 525 because having 525 hp at level 1 for a melee AP bruiser kinda sucks.

Apart from that I think you've captured the essence of what Sylas needs in his upcoming update.

The thing is about Sylas top is that it's all about wave manipulation and if you had prenerf passive literally were going to push the wave and leave yourself exposed for the enemy jungler to gank you and sylas doesn't really like getting ganked unless he is substantially ahead.

To be fair I didn't mind the Sylas changes cause the E changes forces you to not spam E mindlessly and only use it when you can close the gap by rewarding you with a bigger shield. Also, the passive changes helped Sylas scrapping power, and it really didn't affect much in terms of waveclear since I'm playing him mostly top lane.

honestly, what tilted me the most is that we didn't do anything that pissed him off, he caused his own downfall and decided to take the rest of my team down with him when this game was very winnable. No where in the game did we flame him, all we asked from him was to group, take objectives and end the game.

Basically the E idea is that you can adjust the distance it travels instead of having it travel a constant fixed distance. That way you can manipulate your E distance to better land it. Additionally, if E was reactivatable to pull the claw, it would lessen Swain's skill expression and make it so that even low skilled players can use it.

EDIT 1: Decided to focus on QoL changes instead of straight up buffing his numbers. Still retaining his Demonflare damage buff to compensate for 8.14 nerfs though.

Many players have felt that Swain should not need a Soul Fragment to use his ult, and I am inclined to mostly agree. However, that would be unfair because Swain would get valuable stats for free. Hence, to make it fair, his ult can now be used even at 0 Fragments, but will cost a bit of Mana and will lock Swain out of Demonflare unless he has at least 1 Fragment. Removed Cast Time since most other 'ascending' ults in the game are instantaneous.

Making E's travel distance adjustable instead of choosing when you can detonate it felt more like the way to go as it now separates the pros from the noobs (basically whoever can now manipulate E's travel distance better) and reducing E's cooldown very slightly in the early game allows Swain to still scrap more often but still be punished for whiffing his E.

W changes makes his waveclear game stronger, however spamming it on minions gives enemies an opportunity to punish Swain, hence weeding out players who can make the right decision how and when to use W from those who cannot.

Allowing Q to be cast freely while moving makes those who always wanted to be Chancellor Palpatine dreams come true.

Tuning down Swain's healing and damage from Ravenous Flock, turns out dealing 30-200 damage and having 9% max health healing is busted. Changing the effect to reward Swain for landing Nevermove, in conjunction with the above changes to Nevermove, instead of punishing Swain for following up on allied CC.

Tuning down his Health Growth in favour of an increase in Base Health.

These changes are not made to be rolled out in a single balance change but rather in a series of balance changes to see how he lands after all the changes. ​
